Does anyone on here hone their own cylinder when they rebuild? I was thinking about buying a hone but my question is what grit is best to use? The hones range from 120 grit all the way up to 320 or higher if I special order.

I honed my own cylinder about 6 months ago..... I forget what grit i bought. I'll have to check next time i go to Dads. I bought the three prong model. I got some good feedback when i posted this same question a while back. I forget what the reccomendations were but it is what i went with and worked great. Do a search for cylinder honing and see if ya can find my post.

The hone you men are talking about is a flex hone that can be purchased at any auto parts store. It will not change the cylinder bore as far as size, straighten the bore or return it to round. It will only de-glaze the bore. The common grit is 220 or 280 grit. A sunnen hone is built to change size, straighten, and ensure the bore is round.
