case splitting

I have been fighting a clutch rod so i decided to go ahead and try to split the cases and get the second rod out. Ive got all the phillip head screws out, fly wheel off and trying to pull the flywheel side case off of the clutch side case. the whole thing is split, but when i try to pull it apart it will come up like a inch and then it acts like it is hung. Is there something in the case it could be hung on or does it just need some "gentle persuasion" to remove it the rest of the way. thanks for any help in advance
