Well it's not the head unit itself. I connected it to the battery and it worked flawlessly, it's something in the harness. My buddy is coming over tomorrow to get this thing figured out.

its probabily the turn on wire, newer cars use the system bus to turn the radio on

does your cig lighter switch with the key, if so tap that for ign+

You were right! got it working, the ignition switch wasn't working. I tapped into the wire that turns the heat fan on. Thanks a lot guys!

Nope, sounds perfectly fine. I thoroughly test it today! Played multiple MP3's, tried out the radio, all sounds perfect. It isn't what actually powers the fans, it is just what turns the whole heating unit on.
