blaster wont start

cousins blaster wont start. has spark, compression somewhat, fuels to the carb, pull plug out and its bone dry. new stater, tors and coil. the light doesnt light up when kicking over

tried bypassing killswitch and key, nothing.

put fuel in cylinder tries to fire until fuel is gone, then nothing.

sometimes get a backfire while kicking

any help would be greatly appreciated

u need to get a compression tester and check your compression.....u might wanna rebuild ur carb...because if it has spark then i would think its in the carb......but u might wanna check the reeds......it's pretty much a process of elemination

rebuilt carb, reeds are good. also now the plug is no longer dry when pulled out. the exhaust is dumping smoke out but nothing else still a backfire here and there but thats it. gonna check compression tomorrow. the engine only has 3 hours at most since last rebuild(winter06-07), is it possible it lost that much compression since then

The way it will lose that much compression is when the gaskets are bad...there are a few to check: Base Gasket, Reed Gasket, or Exhaust Gasket.

For some reason, it has to be losing compression. If everything is good that you say is good, you may want to check the rings or gaskets.

Try pouring a little gas/oil mix into the spark plug hole and see if it starts. If it doesn't start or run for a sec, you have either a compression or spark issue.

To check spark, put a screw driver into the spark plug cap the touch the screw driver to the frame...if it sparks inside the cap, you have spark.

You need to have atleast 100psi of compression for it to run, if you don't have atleast that...you need either gaskets or rings.
