Blasterpiece Theater

like pic 1, but under the fender, horizontally
not like pic 2.

fender like awk said. i say cut out the front of the fender so they are flush with the edges, not sticking down 1-2 inches
i edited you picture to kind of show where

also, the second idea. Blaaster has led everyone to believe that those scoops dont actually work. and he did a little mock set-up that wasnt the best (no offense) but i really dont think they help enough to keep scoops if you didnt need them. another thing, the left side (from front) would be running air right over the hot pipe. i think it worked very well on my blaster when i had the right bend LRD and just one scoop because the whole face of the motor was open

I went with fender mount. More traditional. I put them above rhe fenders for now. I shave them because of a huge crack.

I am going to revisit this when I get new fenders.

Holy crap they are bright. Really happy so far. I didnt get my rectifier uet they are just running off the lighting coil for now.

They flicker at idle, kinda drive me crazy.

I got comparison pics. Had my flash on. DOH!! Will get better pics tonight.

That pipe sounds great. It installed really easy and sealed up nice.

Bike barely idles. Pulled pipe back off and leak tested again. 6 lbs 5 minutes. good to go. sprayed around carb and no change in idle. confident i don't have an air leak.

I think i need to visit my pilot circuit. I have always felt like the idle to 1/4 throttle was off. Now with the new pipe it idles like absolute garbage.

I have the tors box still on, disconnected but on. Idle screw is all the way out. 6 - 6.5 turns. and the throttle slack adjuster on the throttle itself is almost all the way out. AS is at 3/4 turn out. It idles ok there, but not great.

Off idle it actually seems to run great. 300 MJ Needle on #5. I took it for a small spin to hear it and feel it. Pulls hard through 3 gears. Screams louder than King Kong's last one night stand. I shut her down til i get the idle sorted out. with the pilot circuit out of whack i'll never get a proper tune.

I also need to repack that FMF.

still running the stock pilot. 32.5

I think i will just go through and tune everything for the AFR all across the board.

Plan of Attack:

Drop needle back to stock.

Repack silencer.

Start moving richer/leaner on the pilot 1 step at a time.

Move needle clip back to 5 adjust as needed. etc etc.

Then we will move to the main.

As tempted as I am to just holler "WHAT JET DO I NEED?"

I really just need to dive in there and figure it out as I go.

won't run it again till i am happier. til then i am unhappier. :)

Set the float level.

Lift the clip on slot from the bottom.

Adjust the idle as per specs.

It the needle a stock needle, DMC loves the stock one.

I have that purging is needed when left to idle for an extended period.

Idle adjusting.

Set float level, make sure that all jets are clean and fuel flows freely from the float bowl drain when the screw is cracked open.

Start with air screw 1.5 turns out.

Set idle screw so that it has some sort of idle. With TORS it is the big screw under seat on top of unit. With no TORS is is the brass screw midway down carb body.

Warm up motor and then set idle screw for a faster idle, 2000rpm+

Adjust air screw either way to get the fastest idle.

Adjust air screw a little at a time leaving 10 secs or until the motor responds.

Re adjust idle screw for desired idle .

Yeah it is a stock needle. Float is dead on.

I still need to tune the carb.

The altitude changes here rapidly to large degrees.

I need to learn carb tuning inside and out so I can adjust on the trail as needed. I will definitely get there.

I know a lot of my dad's friends and dad himself could listen to a 2 stroke and just be like. thats rich on the pilot. drop one step and decrease the AS 1/8 turn... bike would then run perfect.

learned by doing.

OK a little update. I tuned my carb last night. Dropped to a 30 pilot. This baby purrs like a kitten in a blender. It has never idled this well.

Needle on #4 and plug chop confirmed a 290 Main. I am so stoked to ride this weekend and put this pipe through it's paces. Thanks for all the input guys.

Took it into the mountains. (Sorry forgot camera). 75 miles! Ran great all weekend long. That dmc is amazing. I know it is a low/mid pipe but my god the thing never seemed to stop pulling. Anyone else notice this with the dmc?

Had a small stretch of highway to traverse to get to the trail. Me and a buddy on a kawasaki 400 4x4 decided to race. I walked all over him. We pulled on to the trailhead and he was shocked. Thought I was lying about it being a 200.

I wanted to see what she was going to look like all white. I rattle canned the front bumper, grab bar and nerfs white. I gave her a good scrub and threw the nerf webbing in the wash. I think I am really going to like the white frame.

I also had some stickers laying around from an old project so I trew them on as well. The monster is born.

Well the blasterpiece is gone! Kinda sad about it but i got a hell of a deal. Ended up making a couple hundred bucks. Traded it for a 2000 Polaris Trail Boss 325. This thing runs good looks great and is severely underpowered. PERFECT! Jon is going to be so happy. I need to do some maintenance, Change Oil, Adjust Brakes, Clean and Tune Carb. Stay tuned this winter for the next Blaster Build.

why would you do that. You just had your blaster going in the right direction.

Having a safe rig for my boys is way more important than having a fun toy for me.

Ill get a new build underway very soon. Lets call the blasterpiece my hypothesis. I now have a theory derived from it and all that is left is to prove it.
