What's with the goo?

I have purchased a 1989 200. I took off the, what looks like a k&n filter, and on the underside there is a pinkish grease like substance all over in there. What the $!×*% is it.

All my K-n-N filters had a pinkish red oil sprayed over them as a "prefilter" , I guess to trap more contaminates! I just wipe it out and clean them. I dont oil anymore. Or, get rid of it and get a Uni filter. I dont know anything about them. Good luck!

It's an oiled filter. They may have put grease on it where it seals to the housing.i always do on all my dirtbikes. Better sealing.Better for Dusty conditions
