Well a nice polished aluminum always looks good.. mine are aluminum but like black rims. A little rust is common just a little sanding like you said and a quick touch up and your good to go.. In your case imo gloss white maybee.. or maybe a candy cane red and white circle so we can get dizzy when you go bye..

That sounds like aluminum.... Take some steel wool and use that to sand it all down/clean off the "rust"

My opinion leave the mas is or primer and gloss black Rustoleum. Cheaper and durable

Its powder coated, not paint. And ya aluminum is one of the best metals to powder coat, It conducts electricity great, heats up even and easy to clean. Just did the old clutch lever in a new powder coat booth to see how it worked. Went with a honda red color.

And I'm parting out a blaster, its got rattle can blue rims, but about to blast and powder coat if your intrested sauce. I've got black powder, and it'll last a long ass time.
