Things don’t seem to busy round here so I’ll use up a little bandwidth. Haven’t been around much since my Son outgrew Blasters and started his own family. Now it’s time to think about the next generation. Early in the year I freshened up our LT80’s to get the Grand-kids started. That led me to the next step, the Blaster. We had the 91 Guest Blaster sitting out under a rotten tarp where it had been for a couple years.
Vito's 240, pj34, Warrior front hydros, YZ85 rear hydro, homebrew +4 swingarm
I remember it was loosing power after warming up. Thought it might be seals and put it aside to prevent damage. Poor old thing was rusty, moldy & uglier than ever. Being the guest Blaster this thing has taken a lot of abuse over the years. It has also gotten a few hand me down experimental parts from our YZ Blaster project.
It actually started after a few kicks. Compression is 152 and it passed the leak down test. Should have done that a couple of years ago. Problem turned out to be the carb. Too easy :} The rust revealed a broken frame tube below the front motor mount. A little welding fixed that & relocated the front shock mounts.
Took the bike apart and rattle canned it back to as respectable as I can make a purple Blaster.
Felt good to take it for a spin around our trails. Blasters really are good little trail bikes.
Anyway, it’ll be awhile till the kids are ready for a clutch so I guess I’ll have to keep the chain from rustin up again.
It was fun takin a bike apart again .. here’s sum pix…..
This was just after we got it and it was old then…
Years later…
30 ft below the trail
mud hole … typical guest blaster abuse
before rattle can
after rattle can
The kids current rides … the yellow one is 30 yrs old, older than their Daddy :} .. the pink LT80 & the Blaster are 27 yrs old .. all wearing original plastic.
BTW .. Anyone have experience putting a hydraulic clutch on a Blaster?
