Ive adjusted the clutch lever for less free play, changed oil, new clutch disks, basket not grooved. Its about impossible to get the thing in neutral when its running. What am I missing

The shift star and shift pawl on the end of the shift shaft (all one unit) are the only other possible problems

X2 on prawl. Some other ideas.Does it feel like the clutch is not disengaging all the way? Got the right oil in it for a wet clutch? Push rod for the Pressure plate adjusted correctly so actuator arm lines up with case mark..
Soak your disks priar to installation

Try putting it in nuetral before you come to a complete stop

The adjustment of pressure plate is critical for proper use. All else fails try holding it with one hand and shifting it with other.

Does it feel like it's trying to move with the clutch pulled? When in neutral and you put it gear does it clunk w hard or jump?
