Best all around swingarm

What's everyone's opinion on best all around swingarm lengths? I'm in the process of gathering parts for a restoration and was debating on adding a +3 swingarm to make my blaster more suitable for dunes. Would I still be able to wheelie on command when needed to get over obstacles that may be in the trail, and would it inhibit my ability to trail ride/race.

I've got nearly 50hp with a +2" on the KTM Blaster.
It will wheelie at any time, and could use a little more length on hills.

My son has a +4" on nearly 40hp and it mostly wants to spin unless traction is superb.
He can loft it but has to work it. It hillclimbs on sand wonderfully.

I'd suggest your +3" is probably a good all around compromise.
 
I've had +2, +3 and +4.
I like the +3 the best.
 
What brand of swingarm did you use awk, i am debating on ordering one from the swingarm shop or spending the extra money to get one from Lonestar.

I've run a custom built +2, a used swingarm shop +4 that held up and I still have, and now a +3 LSR round house.
you'll be fine with a swingarm shop in the sand.
 
I've been told that I can use a stock brake cable with a +3 swingarm, is this true?
 
What type of riding do you do?

I do tight wet eastern woods trails, lots of mossy ground, wet leaves, logs across the trail.

I just got this +2" roundhouse swing arm from the swing arm shop on eBay. It looks and feels pretty solid. And a 400ex axle carrier fits in perfect, so I will be using a 400ex axle and rear brake here soon. Will post more pics when I get that far.

My son and I have been doing quite a bit of "Blastering" lately. He has a 4" swingarm, I have a stock arm on the stroker and a 2" on the KTM powered Blaster. The 2" on the KTM Blaster still allows instant wheelies at any speed and is too prone to lifting the front on hillclimbs. The 4" gives too much wheel spin on slippery surfaces and might spin rather than lift as you aproache a hazard (log, puddle, rock, etc).

Our feelings are the 4" is a bit much for woodland riding and the 2" is not enough. The 4" is great for hillclimbs and high traction stuff, but the plan is for a 3" for the stroker.

How many CC's is your KTM powerd bike?
 
Here's a pic of my last ride at a Sandy Hill climb. I still have my stock swinger and I could make it up the hill. However, there was a few times my bike would want to lift, and other times it didn't float like I would have liked it to. With my style of riding, ive decided to go with a +2 swinger made by Tyson racing. with my weight and height, I think+2 is more my size so I can still get good traction when racing on the track. I was originally gonna go with +3, because I agree that +3 is the best length for the average size adult but I'm a short guy haha

I have a 300 cylinder for it as well but there is no way that I need the extra displacement.
It has the torque to loft or spin even under powerband.
I also like the quick response and extra peak rpm of the smaller piston.

Conversely, I like the extra low end grunt of the stroked and bored Blaster motor.

Incidentally, my son came across a Blaster on the local trails with the same extension as I use.
He asked where the guy got the idea?
"Blasterforum!"

I never really noticed that, good catch. The main reason I was gonna go with Tyson is became the guy who fabs them has a shop not more than 20minutes from my house, so If something were to go wrong with it, I was told he stands behind his product. I've also been told that by using the Tyson, I save some weight because it's lighter. I haven't actually weighed the two, so I can't be 100% sure, I'm just going off of what some local riders told me out at the hill. Although I really like the extra support brace that you point out, strength is definitely more important than saving a few pounds. Definitely something to think about.
