Can I add the rectifier right where the headlights hook up, or must I put it before the switches, right after the stator?

reeds only really help with response. no matter what you get.... re-jet. re-jet. re-jet. you may as well (if you have the money) get a new filter, take the lid off, get some new reeds, and a pipe all at once... you only have to re-jet once that way. but... if you don't re-jet, you will have to...

you CAN NOT use stock or even banshee shocks with the conversion kit. you MUST have long shocks. your short shocks are pulling the tires in. and damaging your a-arm bump stops. i went through the same thing. get some 400ex fronts, or pony up for some yfz450 fronts, then you'll be good.

take a compression tester with you! check the compression right there in front of the guy.

if the scoring is very deep, just look for a new cylinder from ebay... your head will fit it. you can probably find one pretty cheap. if you do buy a new or used jug, go to a machine shop and let them hone it for you.

cheaper 2 stroke oils are just that... cheaper. they are made for chainsaws and weedeaters, mainly. i used belray 2-stroke racing oil. i mixed at 32:1 ... perfect plugs. actually, they were a bit on the rich side... which i think is good..... less possible damage to the engine on a long hot...

clean your plug with carb cleaner and super fine grit sand paper. then clean it again. then..... run at wide open throttle for a bit and see what color it is. even a perfect jet job will look black if you are going at low rpm's.. you need to have a lot of rpm's going to really check a plug.

z400 fronts are the same as 400ex fronts. i had z400 fronts on my blaster (with the diamond j kit). they were o.k... but, still not that great.
