    Spark plug color

I just picked up a used yz85. I put a new spark plug in it and rode it around for an hour and then took it out and this is what it looks like. Does it look lean? The insulator looks really white to me. It has stock jetting and the bike is completely stock so i would think that it should be...

    Plug chop pics

Okay, i will run the 230 then. Should I do a mid range plug chop, or is there another way to figure out the needle clip position. I have 30 pilot jet and it seems to be good. I adjust the mixture screw until the rpms are highest, at about 1.5 turns out, and then I go back in a quarter turn and...

    Plug chop pics

Oil injection is blocked off with block off plate and carb hose is plugged. I did the plug chop exactly as you just described. I run 32:1 klotz benol. Floats set, carb clean, air filter clean. BR8ES. Good blue spark. How do those plugs look in your guys opinion. I want to know your thoughts

    Plug chop pics

Yes engine was warmed up for at least 10 minutes of easy riding before doing the plug chop. The engine is already broken in with 3 heat cycles. And there are no mods besides are box lid removed, and tors and oil injection blocked off and its bored to 67.5 mm. Im not sure if those plugs looked...

    Plug chop pics

So i did a plug chop with the stock 230 main jet, and then i did a plug, chop with the 250 main jet. When looking at the plugs, i thought the brown ring was supposed to be right on the bottom. But on both plugs, the color seems to be in the middle/upper area of the plug. How does my jetting look...

    Problems after rebuild

Ive never used a different needle in the time that I have owned it. The needle has 5j22 stamped on it, so does that mean its stock?

    Problems after rebuild

Yes i used the piston pin and clips that came with the new wiseco piston for 67.5 bore. I used a brand new wiseco wirst pin bearing. I took my clinder to the shop and they honed it and said it was exactly 67.5 so I bought the wiseco piston for a 67.5 bore. And yes the cylinder was already...

    Problems after rebuild

Okay so ive got everythinf back together and i think i have it figured out. When i was rebuilding the top end, i noticed that the washer under the main jet was missing, so I bought one and installed it. With the washer in, the engine womt rev out in ghe higher gears. Then i took the main jet...

    Problems after rebuild

I checked the ring gap and both rings are between .013 and .014 inches. 2.657 inch bore x .005 inch equals .0133 inch minimum ring end gap so i think im good with that. I used the ken oconnor video for cylinder gap using feeler gauges and I got between .002 and .0025 inch clearance. The piston...

    Problems after rebuild

Tommorow i am going to buy feeler gauges to measure ring end gap and also piston cylinder clearance. As far as i know, thr clearance should be correct according to the shop but im going to use feeler gauge to make sure. I did a leak down test before I did my heat cycles and no leaks. I will do a...

    Problems after rebuild

Im sorry, I added the clearance instead of subtracting it. What i was trying to say was, shouldnt the wiseco piston already be 67.449mm, since the box says its for a 67.5mm bore? That would give it the .051mm clearance it says on the box. And yes the engine turns over fine with the spark plug...

    Problems after rebuild

On the wiseco piston box it says its for a 2.6575 inch bore, which is exactly 67.5mm. The machine shop measured it in front of me and it was exactly 67.5mm, and the piston box says clearance of .051mm so shouldn't the wiseco piston be 67.551? Before I did this last rebuild, I actually already...

    Problems after rebuild

Okay so a few months ago i rebuilt my blaster top end. I had the cylinder bored to 67.5 and hones and chamfered. I put in a new wrist pin bearing, and a new piston kit from pro x. My bike has stock jetting and everything stock except it obviously is bored to 67.5, it has tors and parking brake...

Slapping noise, possibly piston slap. Clearance question

The piston was in there for about 5 hours of runtime. It was a pro x cast piston. There is no discoloration on the top of the rod. There is a little purple/blue color on the crank where the rod goes into it, but theres no play in the crank, and it doesnt seem like the crank is bad. I noticed...

Slapping noise, possibly piston slap. Clearance question

I checked for play in wristpin bearing and there is none. Its a brand new wrist pin bearing so i wouldnt think it would be messed up. I was looking at the millenium tech link and my piston looks very similar to the multipoint seizure and the 4 point cold seizure pictures, except that mine doesnt...

Slapping noise, possibly piston slap. Clearance question

Should I just buy a 68mm wiseco piston and have the cylinder bored to that piston and hope that everything goes well this time? I'm going to switch to klotz super techniplate too. I was using cheap 2 cycle oil from the auto parts store before, so maybe higher quality oil will help.

Slapping noise, possibly piston slap. Clearance question

I checked the rod up and down and there was none. The side to side play is minimal, less than a mm. Does the rest of the stuff in that diagram require the cases to be split?

Slapping noise, possibly piston slap. Clearance question

I replaced the wrist pin bearing with a new wiseco one when i rebuilt the top end. Im not sure how to tell if it is bad or not. And I did 3 heat cycles exactly like on ken o connors video. And i let the quad warm up by riding it around slowly and keeping the rpms down for a good 3 or 4 minutes...
