Clutch Issue

I just bought my first atv, a 2003 blaster, and the previous owner told me the clutch needs to be replaced because it slips and I shouldn't ride it till I fix the clutch. How can I verify that I need to replace the clutch due to it slipping?

If I need to replace the clutch, what brand would be quality and be durable that isn't too expensive. I read a little about the Tusk Clutch Kit and am considering buying that one but wanted to ask the opinion of someone who has more knowledge on blasters than I do since I am new before making a decision.

I’d start by making sure that it’s adjusted properly. How’s the oil level and condition? If you need to adjust the pressure plate just lay it over on the left side. Don’t need to drain it. Be sure to shut fuel off.

Do a search, you’ll find lots of opinions on type. My preference would be Driveline, Vito’s 240, Tusk. I actually have a Dirt Digger that’s worked good. Seriously consider the heavy duty springs.

Thanks for your answer, when I pull the clutch in to put it in gear it stalls right after I put in gear even if the clutch is pulled.

When I told my local Yamaha dealer, the guy said my plates are probably stuck together and recommended an EBC clutch for $100, and I ordered it. Are EBC clutches good?

How do you check the trans oil level, when I searched on google, it said there should be a small window on the right side, but when I look at my blaster there is no window anywhere.

They are pretty good. EBC makes a lot of friction material stuff, clutch and brakes.

You MUST soak the plates in trans oil for 24hrs before installing

The “window “ is near the kicker, little round piece the size of a nickel
Make sure you clean it off good when you have the cover off.

Thanks for the information about soaking the plates. Would you say replacing the clutch is an easy job, I never replaced a clutch on a blaster before but assume it won't be too difficult, and I will look into it once my parts arrive.

When putting the plates in the clutch basket, do they only go in one way or how can you tell which way to put them in?

Thanks again for all the info Larry, I really appreciate it.

I just wanted to ask if the oil pump needs to be taken off, for the side cover to come off, so I can access the clutch? I watched some youtube videos and some say it needs to come off while others somehow take the whole cover off.

If you want to delete the pump you have to take the clutch cover off and at least remove the gear. You can leave it or get a block off plate
