Hello everyone. New to the Kawasaki game. Bought an older bayou KLF300b and am having some clutch issues with it. I’ve replaced both the centrifugal and the shifting clutch and the adjustment screw did nothing and it still wouldn’t move. I’ve made sure everything on shifter side is lined up and that adjuster arm and spring stayed in place when installing. The only way I’ve been able to get it to run is to put an extra clutch pad in on the shifting clutch. I know this is t correct and would like to fix it the correct way. I tried adjusting the screw by turning it to the right till I feel resistance and the left till I feel resistance. The problem is the resistance never happens. Any help is appreciated

My guess is that the pressure plate is worn. If you got it to work another way, I don’t see a problem with that. Hopefully it was an extra steel you added.
What oil are you using?

And yes it was an extra steel. I don’t remember the exact oil I used but it was for wet clutches that someone recommended on another thread

Did you use new springs?. Was this problem maybe the reason you bought it cheap ? Basket isn't grooved? was this an aftermarket clutch? If so, without knowing the thickness of factory and what you bought, we're just guessing.

If it works with the extra steel, I'd just rock it.
JMHO, your mileage may, and will vary :D

Double check that oil. Maybe try something else. My son changed the clutch in his CBR,and had similar problem. Even though the oil claimed.to be.compatible, it wasn't with that clutch. Changed the oil (again) and all was good.

Not being a smart zzz, what is worth and what did you pay? Lots of good motor heads here, but maybe a model specific forum might be more helpful

Tried specific forums. Never got answers on most. Figured since everyone here helped with my blaster that the Kawasaki section could help with it.

6 months later and you were correct. Worn pressure plate mr. shee

The thing is there isn’t much tolerance thickness wise between a clutch that works and one that doesn’t .
High quality oil will help both the engine and clutch. I’ve been using Shell Rotella 15-40 in everything, even the Foreman plowing snow and pulling logs. Also Blaster and lawnmower

Calling all Technicians!!! :
I just received a 2003 kawi Prairie 650 4x4 for nothing. It is about 90% complete, except for the front cylinder is gone. I cant seem to find a used front cylinder head assembly on EBAY. The new ones are about $1000 for the set. (Not an option) In your opinion. what is the difference between front and rear cylinder assemblies?? I have been looking at them side by side and still cant tell the difference. Are these assemblies interchangeable, or do I have to spend some 1500 bucks trying to piece the front assembly? Please help! I think Im posting this in the right place.

I’d start checking salvage yards. Most aren’t going to be listing every single part or even machines.
Only one I’m familiar with. 5-6 buildings and 20+ acres outside

UPDATE: I found several front head assemblies on the net, but the price difference is substantial!!! What exactly is the difference between the front and rear head assemblies?? Has anyone ever worked on these machines??
I really want to know, this has been bugging me for quite some time. I have been staring at both front and rear heads in pictures and still cant see the differences. Please help.

This may be a question better answered on a Kawi forum.
Is this a V engine? Intake between the two cylinders? Maybe the heads are mirror images? The cheaper one being used on a single cylinder engine also?

Some times you just have to bite the bullet

Your probably right Larry, a Kawi forum.. just thought by some off chance someone would know. Yes... V twin. Yes... intake in middle.
I may have to bite the bullet, just wanted to settle it in my mind and possibly save a few hundred bux!
Thanks for your input. as you may know, it is highly valued!

Another kawi owner said that cams are diff. I'm looking at a spec sheet and it gives only dimensions for one cam. (meaning the same cam used twice) He states the rear cam has a ring groove, the does not. I'm still investigating that. My model is the KVF 650.

Now this makes more sense to me. Somewhere I got the impression it was a 300.

So why do you need another head?

Previous owner dropped a valve. The shop quoted a ridiculous price, and he started to strip the Atv so he could drag it to the scrapyard. I stopped him a little to late. The front jug, piston, carbs and alot of high $ items are lost forever. Luckily it cost me nothing to get the quad, but have to spend some 1600 dollars to replace parts!
I will just keep this one, it is something I wanted for awhile.

Heads are the same, cams are different. I've staring a cams all morning. Apparently rear cams have a, "raised radius along the face of the seating". What ever that means.
