My son has an '89 YFS200 with mechanical rear brakes. The caliper is bad and it's impossible to find a used one (new ones are like $300). We've read that you can weld a bracket on the frame and get a hydraulic brake setup for under $100.

So, what is that part? Suggested source?

TIA!

That magical part is all in your head, LITERALLY !!
Unless you found ALL of the parts from a 03-06 you have to make your own parts. Search "Awk 08" brakes. He USED to make brake kits. That will give you some ideas.
Even looking at OEM set up will help. BTW , you can use a floating caliper and a floating rotor. Actually makes it easier because you don't have to be as precise on spacing

You can get a Warrior cali, master, and read for $35 on egay or amazon. Then all you need is the hose.

Obviously some fabricobbling will be needed

Do a search on here . there us a thread with some good pics of a simple bolt on rear bracket.. Cheap Chinese mater and caliper work well. For 03-06 blaster or the warrior ones larry mentioned. All the same and cheap.
Have to put a small extension on the back of your brake pedal to activate the master you will mount to the frame
