I just purchased a 2004 Yamaha Blaster I am not sure if the ‘power band’ has been radically modify to create a blast of power only at the top rpm range, or maybe this is normal. From what I see, the only change to the bike is the FMF Expansion Chamber. Maybe the exhaust pipe is the reason for the blast of power at the high end or maybe some cylinder porting been done too. Just like to get some feedback. I purchased this bike for my grandson, which is 15 years old. If I get some feedback is suggesting maybe the bike has been “ported” I may be looking to detune the bike with an OEM Cylinder until my grandson is ready for the blast of power.

You could put a nut in the throttle assembly to keep him from going full throttle, power bands are just strong in two strokes

Could you perhaps post a picture of the exhaust?

Also, depending on your jetting, if it's running too lean on the bottom-end, it can feel like a powerband when it gets running better. My buddy's does that because hes got too small of a jet for his which has a full exhaust, reeds, and airbox mod.

I have a bone-stock (only engine-wise) 1991 Blaster, and it too has a "sweet spot" for the power. Mine is much lower in the rev range, but all two-strokes have a powerband of some sort. Unfortunately, if you want to limit the throttle, you're going to have to make something.

Is he new to riding?

Have you ever ridden a 2s bike or quad? If so, which one.
A real easy and cheap way, other than throttle limiter, which it had stock, would be to put the stock exhaust on. A re-jet for the change and you’re done.
The throttle limiter is a screw and nut on thumb throttle housing

This week I an talking him out into the desert to practice riding the quad in a flat open space. My question seem this bike with it explosive power at the high end seem normal to you guys. We'll take one step at time which he seem very eager in learning.

The bike is only as fast as you ride it.he should be used to the thumb throttle.just ride around under full throttle till he is comfortable with new bike
