Hey all, I recently came across this gem that has been in a barn for 10 years. I got it cheap and was told it needed a top end so I got it home and dug into it. I pulled the jug off and had some aluminum around the exhaust port. I put some muriatic on the aluminum to etch it off the cylinder wall. I then took a hone to it to bring back some crosshatching but was left with these scuffs on either side of the exhaust. They're smooth to the touch and doesn't hang up on my fingernail. I was just wanting someone else's opinion.. throw fresh Piston kit in it and send it or take it to the local shop to get bored. I'm trying to keep this pretty much as low budget as I can since I'm not able to ride often.. any feedback is appreciated!

Anytime this is attempted it risks breaking a piston skirt, dropping into the bottom and breaking the cases.
whats the compression ?
and piston to cylinder clearance ? ......

Good call on pieces falling into the cases.. I tried uploading pics but they're too large upload.. the rings are seized to the piston, didn't have any compression.. I found some small aluminum shards in the bottom end so I won't even chance throwing a piston in it I'll just split the cases for cleaning and order new bearings and seals on top of getting the cylinder punched. Do these factory jugs come nikasil coated? Or am I able to take the jug to a local shop? I have done a top and bottom end on a dirt bike before but never a blaster..
