Okay so I was lucky enough to have my very first machine be a Blaster (1989) :) I fell in love with it instantly. But I only had it a week and the piston rings fused to the piston so now my boyfriend and I are rebuilding it. We're so close to finishing it's not even funny, but we're not sure if the exhaust flange requires a gasket or if it's optional. When we took the exhaust off there wasn't one there, could this have been the reason the rings fused?? We're new to all of this so we're not really sure what the initial cause of it all could be...any ideas??

It's a crush gasket in the exhaust port. In uaes condition it would apeapp flat.
Yes, it could be why it melted down. Unfortunately you can't determine now why it did. But, you can (and should/must) test it BEFORE starting it. It's called a leak down test.
Search on here for how to do it. Member AWK sells testers. Or you can make or buy similar.

Wouldn't hurt to check video on utube by Ken O'CONNOR racing on engine assembly, to make sure you got everything correct.

You need 3 likes to PM. I gave you one. Maybe Awk will see this and contact you about tester.
