Hello all, new here and new to the Blaster. I have an 89 Blaster that I cant seem to get running. Its been sitting in our shop for many years. My brother had it and rebuilt the engine. Has not ran since then. It sat in the shop for many years later. I decided to take a crack at it and just cant seem to get it running. I put a new CDI box on (after market). New coil, coil wire, cap and plug (after market). Rebuilt stator (OEM). New reed valve (OEM). New carb. (OEM). Tors system is disconnected per manual. Compression is between 90 and 120 psi. Did a leak down test and holds pressure very well. Oil pump is still hooked up and functioning properly. Woodruff key is in good condition. Rotor is original although I cleaned it up with sandpaper and seems to be ok. I have spark, fuel, air, and compression, with no leaks. Was backfiring occasionally while trying to kick start. Due to the backfiring, I was thinking it was a timing issue. Turns out there is no timing adjustment on the 89. Pulled the plug after much kicking and found plug wet. Pulled the exhaust off the engine and kicked the kick start attempting to expel any oil or fuel that may be resting in the crank case. After reattaching the exhaust it fired up for like 10-15 seconds. Trying to keep it going I had to keep on the throttle, "blipping" it as best i could although it bogged out reguardless of what i did. After that she would not run at all, and still has not. Thought i should try a hotter plug, so i now have a B7, as opposed to the B8. Still nothing!!! Going to attempt to pull it behind the truck today and "bump start" it. If anyone could possibly shed some light on what may be going on here please feel free to comment.

getting spark ? aftermarket ignition parts for these are known to sometimes be junk

your attempt to expel any extra fuel in the crankcase produced some results, the bottom end may still be flooded.
pipe off, ignition off, fuel off, throttle wide open, pull it in 4/5th gear behind another quad to try and get any other fuel laying in there out.

if your compression is indeed below 100psi, it's time for a rebuild

I'm having the same problem. Pretty much the same case as yours mine is a 1988. I thought it was the carb so I bought a new one. But nothing. I had read on one of these threads the same thing about pulling it behind the truck in 5th gear and then trying to start it. I didn't have my truck so I pushed it up and down the driveway a couple of times. I had the spark plug off to make it easier. I tried to start it after and it wanted to start until it finally started but it wouldn't stay idling. I took it up and down the street and it ran great. When I came back home I tried messing with the carb but it died. I tried starting it again, it wanted to start but wouldn't stay on. I'm going to pull it behind the truck tomorrow opened in 5th gear like @Awk08 said and I will let you know what happens. I will post questions if it doesn't work.

Well, we pulled it behind the truck in an attempt to get her to run. Got it to run for a couple seconds as long as hit the throttle really fast. Definitely wont idle. Pulled the plug after that and it was black and wet. Pulled the tank, exhaust, and drained the fuel out the carb. Pulled it behind the truck to be sure the crank case isn't holding any fuel or anything. Reassembled everything, fresh plug, pulled it again. Barely got her to run at all. Pulled the plug and it was black as coal, but it was dry. I'm thinking my needle jet needs to be adjusted possibly leaner. Almost seems like fuel air mixture is too far off. Going to attempt adjusting the jet needle and see if I have any luck there. I appreciate the tips and suggestions from everyone. They really are helpful!!

Screw jet all way in then screw it oyt 1.5 turns for a starting point other than that might do a preshure test on it but it sounds like weak fire or low compreshion

Yea, that's what it's at. Tried adjusting it with no success. Compression is at like 144. No leaks on the leak down test. Eliminated the tors by unplugging it like the manuel said. Now if I unplug it, do I then need to put an idle screw in it, or is that only if i change it up all the way? Goin to adjust the jet needle. Not sure where I have it set at. Didn't think that would prevent it from running at all. Almost seems like its firing at the wrong time. Can there possibly be too much compression? And how can I tell if the piston is not backwards? Ant tips or comments are greatly appreciated.

So, pulled the carb. off and looked in to see the piston is in correctly. Took the jet needle out and put it on the second setting from the top. Put it all back together and its burning the fuel and backfiring every few kicks. Gonna try to pull it behind the truck again. Keep making adjustments. Idk at this point.

Well, it was the aftermarket coil. That was the first thing I replaced. Put a different coil on and the spark was super blue. Runs great now!!! It better, everything is brand new on it. Thanks all for the help!!
