I just picked up a completely original 91 Blaster. I haven't decided if I want to put an aftermarket pipe on it or not. It's soooooo quiet now and I like being able to ride in the woods behind my house without annoying the neighbors.

What I do intend to do immediately is remove the airbox lid and snorkel. I have read that this requires 2-3 larger main jet sizes. I'll toss a 260 in and go from there.

With a stock pipe and the airbox lid off, will I notice any benefit from lowering the needle one clip, or will I be good with just a main jet increase and tweaking the air screw?

Thanks

Some pipes will work with the stock silencer, check with manufacturer.
260 will probably be too big. The 2-3 size increase is more for with a pipe.

I may look into a pipe that will mate up to the stock silencer.

Will I gain anything by ditching the airbox lid with the stock pipe? If not I’ll just keep it...I assumed it chokes up even an otherwise factory setup. Maybe not?

You'll probably gain a little. Any increase in air flow will help.
A pipe is probably thh best bang for the buck, other than DIY porting.
DO NOT get a DG pipe, barely better than the stock pipe.
