Hi,

I just picked up a 2005 Blaster for $300 off FB last week. I got it running (badly) shortly after picking it up and decided to do some common maintenance on it to get it running better and see how much work and time this project will cost me.

Last night I changed the oil and out spilled a white / grey oil from the crank case that smelled like gas. Any idea what this means? I assume gas is getting in the oil but I have never seen oil this color come out of a crankcase.

I assume the motor will need to be rebuilt and the seals redone.

I have a carb rebuild kit, and an oil delete kit I was planning to work on tomorrow. My plan initially is to run more oil through the crankcase to flush it, install the oil delete kit and redo the carb and run it for a bit to see what happens.

First do a compression and leak down test, and wash it BEFORE disassembly. Under 115-110 lbs means rebuild time.
Your Blaster is 10-30 years old. At this point crank seals should be considered simple maintenance.

Milkshake oil indicates water. Maybe it went for a little swim. Sudden cooling would draw water into crankcase.
No idea about has smell, unless from oil breakdown?

I would flush it with ATF ( it's cheap) (and maybe a bit of dry gas to absorb water)

Sounds good, I'll get some ATF to flush it and use some gas at the end to absorb the moisture.

I'm doing a carb rebuild and oil delete this week also. Once I put it all back together I'll compression test it and leak down test it to see if it's tight. The oil drain screw bolt was stripped on the outside so I had to weld a socket to it to get it off. I assume it hasn't been changed in a long time. Luckily none of the fluid looked rusty.

I assume it will need a rebuild, just trying to determine if a top & bottom is needed or if I can get away with just doing the top end.

Also, how do I tell if the current piston is larger than factory? Just caliper gauge measure it, or ?

Should be able to tell with a caliper. The size really doesnt meam much. Really need a machinist to measure piston and cylinder. Excess clearance or out of round or taper. It is not worth putting a new piston in an old hole.

DO NOT buy a cheap eBay engine kit !!

Also, have to have carb off to do leak down.

After doing a little more research and having my mechanic buddy take a quick peek at it, it looks like the seals are shot and the engine is pulling in oil from the crank case. I bought new seals for both side of the case. Does anyone have a good video on replacing the crank seals on the blaster? I have not found much on YouTube.

Also, I bought the carb idle screw kit, after reading here I realized the previous owner never installed this after installing a twist throttle and removing the TORS system.
