The Banzai Build....

I'm heading north Monday for an all day ride. I have one of those $35 4k action cams..... it will probably get mounted up. I'm kicking back after wrenching on my bosses quad since about 9pm. 98(?) Blaster stock pipe and silencer.. It's getting new chain and sprockets, rebuilt rear caliper, carb clean and setup(there's 5 vents in air box, premix and I lopped the snorkel off for shock clearance put in a 240 MAIN jet, needle at 2.5;) yup -2.5 a little trick I figured out) new air filter and plug, 400ex rear shock install and a full once over...... I get to grab 2 hours of sleep then off to pick up my new to me trailer 51"x96" ..$300...

Off topic I guess but I spent all day fixing the blaster in the foreground. Now she rips!! I can't wait to see my boss's face after his first ride. We're headed out in the AM to the Bull Gap/Meadows loops between Mio and Rose City MI. There's nearly 100 miles of trails and a huge hill climb. I'm stoked... IT'S BEEN TEN YEARS!!

BANZAI !!!!

The TORS was already removed from the bike but whoever did it never installed an idle screw. I spent a good while making the screw and installing in carb.

Got her dirty... that's me swapping back to the 290 MAIN jet from a 280. She ran good once I was done fiddling. Nothing fell off or broke. THE SUSPENSION IS AMAZING. I have some great videos(about 3 hours) but it'll take me some time to cut and edit etc. I'm very happy with the way the bike handles. TWO COMPLAINTS...
1. Riding position is a bit cramped, knees too high.
2. Fuel consumption.... we rode approx. 45 miles(per Polaris trail tracker app) of trails. I had an oil container with 2 oz of oil on me....added a half gallon to tank at halfway point. I went on reserve 10 miles from end and ran out of gas about 1/3 mile from start/finish area... I was running hard the first half.. the whoops wore me out and I slowed way down on the way back partially from fatigue but mostly trying to conserve fuel.

The mainly stock blaster added .75 gallons at 1/2 way and he never had to turn on reserve..

And yea..... my old ass is gonna be CRIPPLED in the morning...lol

An IMS tank is my next purchase.
I'm not sure if I'm gonna go with a 35PWK... The fuel consumption is a big deal to me. I guess I need to talk to Ken more about it.

Here's a vid of good section of trail. This is about 10 miles into ride. I was fiddling with the air screw at each stop ( from 1 1/2 - 1 1/4) and needed to get tools out to adjust the idle. Whoops are 20"+ deep... I was getting tired..lol Stops are waiting for others to catch up. Audio isn't that great, A lot of feedback from bars...the beginning, 7 and 9:50 minutes in are good rips.

Nicccce...... More to come. I have a couple more hours of footage to go through. I need to get a laptop and some editing software. It took a total of 6+ hours to download from the camera to my phone(40 minutes) then upload to YouTube. I was streaming GOT for a couple hours....so....

We're headed to a different trail near Claire, Mi on Sunday. I've never rode this system but my boss said it has grassy sections:D Maybe I can finally get some real wheelie action!!

I'm kinda thinking multiple cameras. Helmet, Bars, low-mid facing right, low-mid facing left, front suspension, rear suspension and rearward facing.
Thoughts? Ideas?

Bad news from Sunday's ride... I developed a base gasket leak and was detonating at the top of 5th gear. Front left corner. I probably overtorqued the nuts. I couldn't find the proper wrench and made one but had to flip it over(longer reach) for two of the nuts and didn't adjust the torque. Gaskets will be here today from partzilla. Que Cera... i just hope cases or cylinder arent warped....

A good case for leak testing after assembly, although leaks can still develop in time.
My guess is you recognized the symptom.

man this is a great build, just read through the whole thing. I just picked up my first quad (!) (Blaster obviously) two weekends ago and am getting the sickness already. Wish I had the level of knowledge and skill, no other way to get there other than experience so thank you for sharing yours!

Oh - what camera are you using? Definitely looks like you could use a couple GoPro Hero Sessions - the more you can get the better chance of great captures :)

Thank you and Welcome! I have more info and pics...just lacking time to post. The blaster is probably the least expensive quad to fully mod. Get the goods while the getting is good!

I'm using a $35 knockoff... my newest vids are 4k..the above was "1080"...

I noticed the pinging first then It was the black fuel puddles on top of the case in front left corner that gave it away.... I'm gonna pull the top end this weekend.

Hi All! It's been a long winter! Here in Michigan it was barely spring.... then it was winter again.... now I think we're good...lol

After sitting dirty all winter she's cleaned up and ready to get that new base gasket... (^^that I apparently was going to do in Oct. Lol)

In the coming days I'll be disassembling the top end and seeing how well things fared under the detonation I was experiencing on my last ride. Against all prevalent advice I used a Vito's "leak proof" base gasket assuming it was just a rebadged OEM gasket....NOT! The couple times i managed to get the bike out I was experiencing a wandering idle and inconsistent low speed needle settings. Then on the last ride I had pudding on top of the cases and loud detonation at the top of 5th gear. More to come....
