low end power

hi all, I am curious as to what mods I can do that will help with low end power. Right now I have a full fmf exhaust and a dual air filter with no airbox lid. It is pretty quick in the top end, but not much for low end torque. I don't really need to go 50-60mph and I would rather be able to do wheelies or just accelerate faster. Any recommendations?

thanks for the quick reply.ill probably start with the smaller front sprocket. What exactly does a reed spacer do (other than space the reeds farther from the carb.. Ha) how does it help low end?

Reed spacer between the Reeds and cylinder will move the power to come on a little earlier!

Advancing the timing 4deg will also do more of the same!

If you are changing to a new front sprocket you need to buy a new rear and chain or all hell may break loose!

its probably about time for a new chain anyways. Its probably stock. Is there a tutorial on timing advances on this site? Are there any adverse effects on reliability with any of these modifications?

I agree with the smaller front sprocket specifically if you have the stock balloon rear tires. If you go smaller rear tires you may not need the smaller sprocket (you would be shifting like crazy). A timing advance or better yet a properly modified head would be great (helps all over the range). Or setting the squish/quench correctly will do the same but not quite as much as a properly modified head. Or a timing advance will also help low end. Set the squish correctly and the timing can be pulled back a bit.
I have personally noticed a bottom end grunt improvement with the Boyesen rad valve. As stated a good low end pipe like the dmc would be a good way to go also..

As far as the reed spacer between the reeds and the cyl ? In theory it would increase ccv (crank case volume) Not by much, but any increase in ccv tends to favor the upper rpm range so increasing it I would say would hinder low end. Buuuut! allot say it increases low end ? Without going into debate I would say try a reed spacer and see what you like.

2 strokes really aren't known for there low end grunt. Granted you can get some but to be honest you wont get allot with a 200cc.. 2 strokes are 2 strokes and they like to rev.

I definitely won't be going with smaller tires, I bottom out on the trails enough as it is. I will probably even go up a size all around and change my sprocket to even it back out. I will most likely be going with the timing advance, and eventually looking into aftermarket reeds, spacer, and modified head.

I actually almost bought a dmc. But I got a deal on the fmf setup so I went with that. Maybe someday ill swap em out. Does anyone know if the fmf silencer would mount to a dmc pipe?

yes it will, but finding a used DMC is as rare as a right bend almost.

And buying new they come with a silencer and they sound way better!

I have some 22" Mud lites on Warrior rims, I have to flip the rims to keep from rubbing. Probably should gear down when using them. Only thing I dislike about them is have to work harder at sliding the back end.

thanks for all the help you guys. As far as a reed spacer goes, what thickness should I be looking for?

40 tooth, but you should not just buy a rear sprocket, you need to get the front one as well as a new chain.

New sprockets and old ones and chains are a definite no no, they wear as a set and damage to machine and person is a possible risk if they are mixed!

Oh dont worry i been pretty much rebuilding this blaster from the ground up i already have a chain and front sprocket just ordered the rear and replacing all bearings as they were all wore down to the inner races
