Have a 98 blaster and and I'm losing some power through the higher gears but its all there in lower gears. I recently changed the gear oil and it is now hard to put into neutral unless I kill it I'm thinking need a new clutch?????

Is it reving out in the higher gears? Like reving high and just not moving?

running fat means the motor is running too rich with fuel (ie. too much gas not enough air to make it run right)
what size is your main jet in the carb? too rich of a main jet makes 5th and 6th gear alittle flat on performance

main jet controls all gears above 3/4 throttle.

too rich is too much fuel, too lean is not enough fuel.
while it has something to do with air, rich and lean mostly refer to fuel when jetting. especially main jets

Where did you find the term fat? i have yet to hear that one

Didn't have any of these problems till after I took engine apart put new gaskets it was missing some gaskets

The gasket where the reed cage and carburetor are and the cylinder to bottom end gasket they had silicone there

Did you tension the bolts up to 5.8 ft lbs or just guess them.

They should be tensioned up diagonally and a little at a time otherwise the cage may warp and leak.

A smear of high temp copper RTV on both reed block and carb boot will help.

You must leak test if you replace gaskets in the areas that you did, as they are very prone to leaking!

Thanks for the help I'll try the gasket sealant I bet your right on it leaking. And yes I used a torquing sequence and a little at a time

Well you may have answered your own question. If it were running fine with an air leak (leaky gaskets) and then you fixed the gaskets thus fixing the air leaks you would be running "fat"/"rich" .. Try taking off the airbox lid and see if it helps. Only do it for a quick spin so to not do damage if it actually happens to get worse, then report back. If it gets better with lid off you are rich/fat on jetting . Pull the carb and see what your jetting is at. Grab a few b8es spark plugs and read up on doing a plug chop.! Read it a few times so you really understand what to do , and how to do it properly. Also as stated make sure float and idle are adjusted correctly..

It may seem like allot at first if you are unfamiliar with carbs/ atv's or any engine in that matter, but pay attn and read things a few times and all will make sense..
