I have an 89 blaster that I just got rid of the tors unit, and put the strait cable on. Have a hard time startin, have to use carb cleaner sometimes to get it to fire, but when it does, it's wide open, like the needle is stuck? I took apart the carb, cleaned everything, checked jets/needle ect. I also did the straight cable to my 03 a few months and it works perfect... any suggestions?

a air leak is very dangerous and could cause serious engine damage! a high idle is a tell tale sign of a air leak

Unless you still have the oil injection, Lay off the carb cleaner, it contains absolutely no lubrication, not a recommended procedure for 2 strokes.
? if the slide is sitting down where it is supposed to be,then it should not be doing it.

top of carb is threaded all the way on?
cable is not to tight or getting stuck on summin?

This is my guess also. I would check that the slide is down all the way,adjust the slack and try starting it again.
Either you put the slide in backward or, you need to 're adjust it, or you have a airleak on your carb cap or around were the cable goes in, those caps are easy to thread on wrong
