Hi all,

I found a 2001 blaster, at least thats what the guys thinks it is. he says its in good condition, but the piston is broke. I have yet to see it in person.
i asked him how the cylinder is and he says its perfect, he did say he has the engine tore down and there might be some bolts missing, it does have a alien after market exhaust, nurf bars and a couple other things.
He's asking $450 for it,

What are y'alls opinions :D

id go look at it and if the cylinder is good id buy it aslong as the bottomend isint torn apart and if you get it and u need any bolts pm me iv got a blaster im trying to part out

ok so i bought it!!!!! He had new tires for the rear. Two carburetors one stock one racing so he said, i honestly don't know the difference. The plastics aren't in bad shape. He removed the rear break, he didn't say why, but i suspect something was wrong with them. Might look into the breaks from "AWK08". he removed the motor from the frame and i already removed the old piston and ordered a Wiseco piston. he said he got the broken piece out but i found little fragments below the piston. I removed them, at least all that I could see, and I didnt see where they had done any damage. The bolt that holds the swing arm and motor to the frame is missing the nut and im sure there are more missing bolts and nuts. he also has new bearing for the rear axle, and he said that the rear swing arm would need new bearings as well and i plan on ordering those tonight. All the covers are off of the engine and the top end removed, are there any other things i should do to it while i can access it all, money is a factor and im not wanting to put a whole lot into it right now. im in $450 for the blaster, $70 for the piston, and $35 for the bearing kit for the swing arm. any suggestions would be helpful

Thanks,
Tin

get the cylinder measured to see if it needs a hone or a bore

Either need inside mic or snap gage and outside mic. Or take it to good shop for measurement.

No clue how you could order a piston without knowing if the bore is straight and round, jmo.

Also, due to fragments of piston in crankcase, you should split and clean them. Flushing is not a guarenteed solution, jmo.

I was going off of what the person said who sold it, he said it was stock bore at 66mm, and since I don't have the time or the know how to completely disassemble the motor, what do you use to flush it?

Thanks,
Tin

most people use compressed air and or mineral spirits, and then re oil and do that a few times, im not recommending it, this is the route I was going to do but then I realized it would suck to have to rebuild the bottom end after I just rebuild the top. so im gonna split the cases, ken o connor has some very helpful vids on youtube how to do it
