Hey guys this may be a stupid question but couldn't find any results. Does cold weather (14 degrees here) have any effect on sealers? I put new reeds on my vforce3s with a new gasket on the intake boot/ reed side and on the cylinder/reed side with a light coating of Threebond 1194 on all surfaces. I torque the 4 bolts to the 5.8ft lbs and have the next few days off so I will let it cure til monday. It is supposed to slowly warm up the next few days. Wasn't sure if cold temps effect curing and wanted to know before I do a leakdown. Thought I read somewhere threebond is an excellent sealer to around -40 Celsius .
Thanks guys
Nick

That's to funny. I actually used some the other day and I'm not sure if it's cured YET. Little vacume leak on son's Jeep. Actually didn't stop leak on slightly loose hose to brake booster. I would think that spec of -40 is AFTER cure. I'm a ways north of Detroit, ways east of Flint.

First post, great site guys gals. No case sealer works great in cold weather. Have used three bond 1194 for years with great success but to get it to skin under 45 degrees is asking a lot.

Yeah, I will try and leak test her tomorrow, supposed to be in the mid 30s the next two days. Hopefully it cured up, if not I will run my heater next to the quad for a while and see if thatll work, wish the wife would let me park in the living room for a few days!! ha

I do tend to forget that you guys in the USA use degrees f and we use degrees c here in the UK, 14 degrees f is bloody cold for that sealer to cure, 14 degrees c however is fine lol.

Clumsy me misunderstanding again ;)

My views, for what they are worth.

I live in a warmer climate, and if I happen to let some sealant dribble over the lip of the container, it will skin over pretty quickly.

Pick the container up a week later, and I will curse about getting sealant on my hands, it has not dried, the skin has sealed the elements from it. Like a thick run in paint, it takes ages to dry.

When sealant is placed in between surfaces the majority is expelled, leaving only a meagre amount, if any, between the mating parts.

The secret is to use the absolute minimum of sealant required to lightly coat both mating surfaces and speedily get them together befor they have a chance to skin over.

I think people worry about the drying time of sealants needlessly, if applied sparingly to the makers specifications, I believe they will seal well at any temperature.

The problems with some sealants not curing is usually because people use them as a void filler, in which case they will never fully cure.

Nicely put Blaaster, I only applied a thin layer with my finger, I never use the applicator tip that they provide with the tube. Put a small amount on your finger and smear it around the surface in a thin even layer.

Soooo what I am assuming from your above comment, I should be fine and the sealer should have set up and made its bond but the excess was pushed out from torqueing the bolts may be too thick to cure since of such low tempurature. Am I correct ???

She said you could park it on your side of the bed though.lol Im interested to hear your results at below 0 temps.
