I got some boyesen power reeds coming monday and i need to know if i have to rejet. So at the risk of looking dumb, how do i do a plug chop? Someone please explain.

You don't need to rejet bc you replace the reeds

to do a plug chop you warm the quad up. put a fresh plug in run about a half mile full throttle and pin it in 5th or 6th gear. hold it at wot for a good amount of time. then shut it down at wot(wide open throttle) stop, pull the plug, put the old plug back in it.

then you will cut the whole threaded portion off the spark plug with a hacksaw or grinder. there will be a dark ring around the porcelin on the plug. hopefully it is a dark cardboard to coffee color. if it's lighter than that it's lean and needs abigger jet, it's black you are too rich

Are you stock or modified? If stock you could probably run same jets year round in Ga. If modded you would have to plug chop and see if you have summer or winter jetting. Just got "winter" jets for son's Banshee, 2 & 3 sizes larger, gets cold here in Mi. Saw guys already ice fishing fri.

As far as i know this is what i have... Stock bore, fmf fatty, power core 2, boyesen power reeds. Soon to be installing tusk clutch with hd springs but that shouldnt affect the jetting. Not sure if the carb has been jetted or not.

Pull the float bowl of the carb you'll see the 6mm hex jet either wrote on top of it or on the side will be your jet size, id say your a 290 if you were standard it would probaly be toasted by now

Ill have to look later im goin out of town in the morning for a few weeks(back to work:-/) if it is a 290, will i have to change it for summer heat? It gets 90ish here during summer.

Every 20 degrees change in temp will need about one size difference in jets.

You also need to change if you ride at different elevations.

Colder/lower = larger.

Warmer/higher = smaller.

If the plug chop shows that the 290 main or what ever main jet you actually have in there is good in the cold, then you'll probably be running rich in the summer heat. It's always a good idea to run slightly on the rich side to play it safe. I have similiar mods ... fmf fatty, powercore ll, vf3's no toil air filter, air box lid on but snorkel removed and I'm a just about perfect with a 280 main in the summer ( slightly rich )
