new fmf pipes and main jet:(

ok so since i have my idle all screwed up, i am going to follow the instructions given.. the only thing i am confused on is should i lower the idle screw to just barely running prior to adjusting the air screw for a fast idle???

Turn it In to increase your idle about 10% before you play with the air screw. it will mimic the idle that youwant to achieve and helps hearing the high idle of the air screw.

even though i already have a high idle when warm???

youre trying to tune the carb TO the highest idle (idle air screw), then adjust your idle (screw on top of tors)back to normal or where you want it.

ok now i'm starting to understand it all?!?!?!I:I
so once i hit the highest idle point it will start back down???

no, lemme try that again...
before you start the bike, turn the air screw on the SIDE of the carb clockwise till it stops gently. then turn it out counter clockwise 1 1/2 turns...
start the bike...
turn the screw on TOP of the carb (tors unit) till the bike idles good maybe even a little bit higher than normal but not revving...
slowly turn the screw on the SIDE of the carb counter clockwise out 1/8- 1/4 turns at a time, wait a sec or 2 between increments, you should start to notice your idle getting slightly higher than it was when you started. keep turning it slowly until you start to hear it start to drop a little. Stop, turn it clockwise in till its back at its highest point in the idle. then stop! leave it there...
while its still running, adjust your screw on TOP of the carb(tors unit) to bring your idle to a place where your comfortable with it.
thats it. i hope that makes sense to ya. it is a hard thing to explain in text...

Should this be done cold start up or operating temp ???...
sorry to make something so easy so difficult.. appreciate you guys hanging in there...lol

It is a simple job to show what to do, but to explain by words on a screen, it can sometimes be a challenge..

Just hang in there, it will all come together!

How about a youtube video showing your quad idling and you trying to adjust both, one at a time. Then, after you've got it running the best that you can a little revving, maybe even video of you riding so we can hear what it sounds like

^^^ That would be cool, but it really comes down to a feel thing and a preference of how YOU want the idle. Playing with the air screw just determines if you have the correct pilot jet or not.

Mike, good job on that explanation, you must've been sweating by time you got done with that....from thought and all the typing. LOL.

lol, not sweating, laughing! its hard to type what youre thinking

Well I tried and tried and it just isn't working... the air screw isn't changing the idle at all, except when almost all the way in then it dies out, if I go over 3 turns out it dies out..... it stays idling but when I hit the gas over half throttle it hangs there till I either pull the choke or let the clutch out causing a load then it drops to idle... I just don't get it... I still haven't eliminated the tors though...
I would change the air screw setting, take it for a ride and it wouldn't change the wot mid missing then take off like a bat outta hell..
I took a small vid of the throttle hang ... I will post it up in a little..

I would reset your process and start by getting rid of that TORS. My machine didn't come with it, but did come with an odd and hard to tune carb, so I kinda got lucky and shafted at the same time. I don't understand the TORS at all, so I can't fully help you...sounds odd though that the throttle is hanging open. Hopefully someone else here will help you out, I'm going to find a place that has NO service this weekend, so I'll be out of touch. Good luck.

is your tors still connected??? its not a Huge jump in idle when your adjusting the air screw, its between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 turns. its really hard to notice on some. its more like a smoothing out kinda thing. crap i hate trying to type what im trying to SAY!!!

Yea I know what your saying... its not that the idle raises but more of the poping becomes less and smooths out...
I really need to get this throttle hang up issue figured out...

awesome, thats a big help! is your tors still connected? if not, do you have a good throttle cable? no pinches or hangups in the thumb throttle? cause thats what it sounds like either that or an air leak.

yes tors is still connected.. i will be doing the removal tomarrow..
i replaced every cable on this blaster when i first bought it, so yes new throttle cable with no hang ups... in that vid i actually pulled the choke to get the revs to lower back down to idle... i can also get them back down by letting the clutch out and putting a load on it...
i sprayed the inake and surronding area with carb cleaner so there isnt an air leak anywhere around there... hope its not crank seals
