Hi everyone,

I'm trying to remove the foot peg allen head bolts and they won't budge! I have the exact fit wrench in them and it spun in one which I think may have messed up the bolt now. Would I need to drill these out now? If so, dumb question but when i drill on the bolt heads it is turning clockwise. Will it loosen the bolt enough to come out after drilling? Should I drill with a small bit first then a larger one if needed?

Thanks!

Warren

they sell reverse drill bits at my local machine shop. some auto/hardware stores carry them too. i believe the bolt/thread size is 8mm or 10mm. you could try one size smaller rev. bit and see if it pulls it out, if not drill and tap baby!!!!

Probably rusted good, if drilling the head of don't heat it up enough to then remove the bolt with a pair of pliers, then you will have to drill the screwed end out and retap!

Thanks, I'll see if I can get a reverse drill bit. If it messes up the thread, I'll just put a new bolt and nut through it to hold it rather than tapping for now. I'm trying to get the assembly off so I can install Awk's hydro brakes.

There is a nut on the other side but for some reason I want to say it is welded to the peg. Does anyone know this or can i attempt to take off the nut?

again.............there is no need to remove the 2 allen bolts, that hold the metal heel gaurd to the footpeg to install my gsxr brakes
the plastic heelgaurd and metal heelgaurd are only held together by plastic posts and rubber grommets, the metal heelgaurd will push right down off of the plastic piece when you get the 3 bolts i've explained loose

use some wd-40 and a big screwdriver to carefully seperate the 2

he said foot peg bolt, granted if theyre allen head, someone replaced the stock hex head. better yet, PICS PLEASE!!!!

NOt neccessarily, My 05 has allen head foot peg bolts. they have that factory green tint coating so they are factory i think.

aaaaahhhhh, after numerous PM's
we have determined that warren has nerf bars, and he was trying to undo the allen headed bolts to seperate the footpegs/heelgaurds/nerfs to allow the footpeg to move out for brake pedal replacement

loosen the front nerf mounts to allow everything to slide out as one piece, just enuf to replace the pedal with the new extended pedal
then loosely rebolt everything except upper heelgaurd mount, the new gsxr master cylinder/rezzie mount will slide right in behind that upper mount, add that bolt thru all 3,
and tighten all bolts
