Was a little bored today wondering what I was going to do about not having heel guards. I picked these up from a friend that was throwing them out and this is what I came up with, the center is a little close to the tire, I may trim it down a bit:

looks good bro, and definately safer than having none
(i got a helicopter ride once from having none !!!!!!)

quite a few of us use them, usually rappy or yfz though
good to know these will work also

Thanks Ken, I had to do something, once saw a kid out on the beach get ate by a 250R 3 wheeler, its tough to this day to grade cheese without thinking about that day!

Please note that these are not a direct bolt in. But 20 minutes with a sawzaw, grinder, and mig and you are good to go. I added a little paint to mine after she fit the way I wanted.

The Z400 has a metal cage that the guard bolts to, the top rear bracket needed the mount rolled forward, i just cut the welds very carefully and used the stock mount and welded it back together. The bottom mount on the peg had a slight bend a few inches before the i-let (sp?). I just cut and ground the bend out to make it straight and it fit perfect. The outter bracket on the peg needed to be pulled out about a 1/4 inch to fit on the end of the peg. It was really simple and took no more than 20 minutes.
I left the bracket on the top and have been throwing around the idea of a small piece of aluminum as a thin fender with either 'yamaha' or 'blaster' cut out. It would be something different and new, but with the tools I have it would be tough to get the angle of the strip and to get the words looking nice. Maybe I could have it done cheap...
