did a plug chop... need advice

yeah you should hold it wot for a good 15-20 seconds at least. but that color isn't bad. I would try it again and see what happens

agreed with luni, experimentation is the only way to really get it right. through in bigger ones till you feel it breaking up. what clip is your needle at? stock needle?

its pulls really well, and also sounds really good at wot, and i know what a lean engine sounds like at wot because i burned up my previous piston by running with an airleak, sounds flat with a lack of power... but now i have lots of power on the top end, and seems to go right back down when i let off, no pinging and the rpms dont hang... so, to me everything seems ship shape.... but with a 340 main something is not right....

well ill go start the bike up and let it idle and spray some carb cleaner around that area and around the carb.... so you say if the rpms pick up when i spray the carb cleaner, thats where the leak is?

edit: vitos needle in the 3rd position and my pilot jet is a 32.5, its the stock jet... the one that came with the kit is a 30, but the pilot seems fine so i stayed with the 32.5

mmmk the vitos needle is the same as the banshee needle, a very rich taper, i ran mine on the mod clip too.

ja if it revs up, it means its sucking in the carb cleaner and burning it, so if the spray can get in so can air. a leak test cannot test the carb fitting as the carb is not there when testing. its the only place it could be sucking air. spray on the carb cap and the oil plug you just put on as well.

ps, you sure your oil mix is correct? stupid question but if you have too much, you will need a bigger jet to pass the right amount of gas cause the more oil in the gas, the less actual gas you have!

at the end of the day, if its happy with a 340, thats what it needs, as much as i feel it shouldnt need it. its just going to be thirsty, but fuel is cheaper than pistons!:)

k well i just went and let her idle a bit and once it warmed up i sprayed some carb cleaner on the cap, and around the intake fitting, and nothing changed... then i doused the whole thing in carb cleaner;) but still no change in the rpms.... maybe i just need a new carb lol

again, thank you all for the advice.... your really don't know how awesome it is to have this site and all its members as a reference, would have never been able to do this stuff without you guys... i knew nothing about 2strokes when i got the blaster, now i love them...

ok check this out... cant believe i didnt see this before, but there is a piece that is chipped where the carb cap meets the carburetor... now, i do have a rubber seal inbetween them, so not sure it this chip in its location would affect anything.... but i am no expert....

As long as the rubber is in there, it should effect the performance. I think I have top if you want to change it. I'm only about half hour away.

the rubber seal, if good, should seal that off, thats where the tab hung down, that sat in the flat spot in the threded carb body
should be good

ahhhh i see.... i kept wondering why when i would tighten the carb cap, the tors brick would spin and i would have to hold it in place.... kept thinking to myself "what an annoying design" lol...

well i did one more chop... this time i held if for about 20 secs in 4th like scotj77 suggested... this is more of what i was looking for... this is still the 340 main, 3rd clip, pilot 32.5... watcha think? its really running well, i am just paranoid cuz i burned up my last top end

does your bike even run on petroleum? there is still next to nothing on that plug to judge by!:) but it looks like a nice grey from what i can see.

how many turns out are you on the airscrew? also, what is your elevation?

otherwise, you surely wont burn anything up with a 340...i think you safe

my elevation is about 900 ft above sea level and the airscrew is at 1 1/2 turns out... here's a picture of the plug that i have been riding on.... looks rich as hell, and this was right after some wot runs on the local trails...
