anyone no how to make a cold air intake?

lol when i read the title i was like "hmmm cold air intake on 2stroke atv?"
i dont quite know the whole concept of cold air intake but would it help performance? it involves alot of other stuff like a intercooler right? i have no idea.

You're going to need to start out with an adapter to connect round pipe to the square inlet on the MAF sensor. You can either get one of these on ebay, or go to pep boys if you have one near you. It's pretty much a universal adapter for vehicles that have the old style gate maf sensor. Late 80's and early 90's fords, mazdas, and nissans commonly used the same style.

Anyways, once you get that, it's basically just taking measurements and buying the pieces you need to get the filter down behind the front bumper. Again, if you have a pep boys store near you, you can get all the stuff you need there, they have just about every piece imaginable, all in polished aluminum. If you don't have a pep boys, or want to save money, head down to the hardware store with your measurements.

If you have clearance try to run 3" all the way from the maf to the filter for maximum flow. Get all your pieces lined up where you want them, cut them all to the right length, and then you can put them together with a couple self tapping screws at each joint instead of gluing them, once you glue them the only way it'll come apart is with a saw. You'll have to be creative to make your mounting brackets depending on what's near the pipe, whether it be zip ties, pipe hanging brackets from the hardware store, or whatever else you come up with.

Try to get the filter in a location where it's going to pull cool, clean air, but isn't directly exposed to the front of the vehicle or in the wheel wells, so it doesn't get soaked when it rains. A good extra measure of protection is to get an outerwear prefilter on the filter. This will repel water and dirt so you won't be cleaning the filter nearly as often as you would normally. I have a cold air intake on my probe gts that brings the filter down on the driver's side about 5 inches from the ground, close enough that it'll actually pull up leaves from the ground if I get into the throttle, and with that prefilter I haven't had to clean the filter yet in the 5,000 miles i've put on the car since i've owned it.

You can even fabricate up splash/heat shields out of sheet metal if you need to, it all depends on where you decide to mount the filter. Another good measure of safety if there's a chance of driving near deep water, is to install an aem bypass valve up near the maf sensor. The valve will basically do nothing under normal operating conditions, but if you would accidentally (or intentionally) drive through water that submerges your filter, the valve will bypass the lower section of the intake and pull the air in right at the valve instead of turning your engine into a water pump and ruining your day. I don't have one of these on my car, because simply my car doesn't leave the garage if there's a chance of it raining.

yeah, i had a 97 2.3L and i couldnt find a cold air intake or a premade exhaust kit for it either!!! all the good mods are for the 4.0's!! but YamaRider has it right! just take out what you have and measure it all out and figure out what you wanna make it out of!! you may be able to buy one for another vehicle and fabricate it! thats what i did for both my rangers! good luck
