Shifter forks ?'s and rebuild ?'s

Yes, I'm spinning the sprocket while trying to shift. The spring loaded wheel will sit in the 6th gear "valley" and then shift to about 1/2 or 3/4 of the way to 5th gear "valley" before stopping. The sprocket gets just a little harder to turn when it stops at this point, otherwise it spins...

Shifter forks ?'s and rebuild ?'s

Let's say (hypothetically of course), somebody just replaced all the bearings, seals, gaskets, clutches and a few new misc, nuts when they recently rebuilt the engine and (even after careful attention at every step of the process) can't get the transmission to shift. The shift drum and forks...

who should i send my blaster motor to

Just jumped on to throw in my two cents: Ship it to Ken, you won't be sorry. Won't find a better, nicer, more knowledgeable guy that isn't out to rip you off. My son and I are rebuilding ours engine ourselves (we're not planning on racing it just want to get it running) while watching Ken's...

    Early 90's Blaster info please

Just stumbled on this thread- My Blaster is either an '88 or '89 and it originally came with yellow tank, hood, seat and springs. Any info on this one? Anything special? How does one find out exactly what the year is after 20 owners and no paperwork?

am i only 1 n here from this state?

I'm in Eureka, about an hour from Fayetteville and Harrison. There's a new place that opened up awhile back but haven't been able to go yet. I think it's called Off Road World or something like that a few miles down the road. Let me know if you're in the area and we'll go ride!

    Bottom end bearing list

I thought I would ask this question here since its related: What is the best way to remove/install these bearings without having to pay 80 bucks for a special, probably one time use tool? -Nevermind, I found Ken's video series. Now I just need to find the time to watch them and take notes...

    Bottom end bearing list

Checked in with Napa, I guess some of these numbers cross over to two different bearing styles. One with and one without a cover for the ball bearings. The numbers WITHOUT are expensive but the ones WITH are about a quarter of the price! The clerk said you can just pop off the covers and they...

I wasn't expecting it to be that much! Hopefully Ken will have a good deal.

Putting engine BACK together, tips, tricks, ideas wanted!

I PM'd Ken and will take pics of my shifter drum tonight and hopefully post tomorrow for your inspection and opinion. Either way, I'm worried about the bearing and a few more in the case (balancer and main shaft I think). Sounds like I should just replace all just for piece of mind. Depends on...

Putting engine BACK together, tips, tricks, ideas wanted!

Thanks Slick! That helps a lot! I tried the cheap cycle link but got nowhere so I'll bring your list into Napa and see what they can do. A) You don't happen to have the number for the shifter drum bearing do you? I noticed in Ken's video he said keep an eye on the condition of the material...

Putting engine BACK together, tips, tricks, ideas wanted!

I've been using RockyMountainATV.com for my parts but I can't find some things like the bearing for the shifter drum. Any other sites that are good and cheap?

Putting engine BACK together, tips, tricks, ideas wanted!

I never seen his set of videos. Those are great! So much better than reading it in a Clymer! There is a spot in there where he says make sure the bearing on the end of the shifter drum moves freely. Ours does but it seems like occasionally, a small speck of something moves around causing it to...

Putting engine BACK together, tips, tricks, ideas wanted!

I did check the shifter forks by cleaning them real well then slowly rolling them on glass paying close attention for any movement. They are as straight as an arrow. I still have no idea why it wasn't shifting. We slowly took each part off and kept checking to see if it would shift but nothing...

Putting engine BACK together, tips, tricks, ideas wanted!

O.K. Gotcha! I'll be making the puller/installer myself now! Excellent info from everybody! Any other ideas like "make sure you do/don't do that..." or "don't forget to have this..."?
