Hey guys I am going crazy with this Woodruff key keeps shearing situation. I think I got tissue straightened out with the valve grinding compound solution but I I can't remember which way the thick washer goes. One side is flat and one side has like a counter sink or a bevel or something. Which side goes towards the engine the bevel or the flat side? Thanks in advance for your help! We just got some fresh snow and I want to ride.

You have a pic?
I believe it's a stamped washer. So one side is flat and other us rounded alittle around edges.
If so put flat towards the flywheel
Make sure taper and flywheel are clean
No oils or left over grinding compound
If it's lapped in good then. Tourqe to spec and you should be good

When you lapped it was it hitting evenly all the way around. No high spots? When you checked it

Highspots and it's sitting pretty good after the grinding compound but when I put the spacer in I got about three threads to work with.

Something is wrong then. You should get a full nut of threads. Wrong washer or key?
Do you have the (right)oem keyway in there? Not an ace hardware keyway?
Uf keyway is wrong and sticks up just alittle higher than correct keyway ut will not sit on tapered shaft correctly and will shear every time.
Key seated all the way down in crank.
Any damage to key? May have to be filed
Hows it go on without keyway?
If it goes on all the way without key than there is your problem
