Ok. So I bought a 2006 blaster. It was running, but not optimal. It had a cheap carb and reeds on it...I ordered an OEM Mikuni Carb, V4 V Force reeds, and installed them today. Now it won’t run at all. I can’t even get it to turn over at all.

I did have to remove the fuel filter from the equation because the position of the carb didn’t have a bunch of space. It was running yesterday. I took it around the block. Now nothing.

I have tried to pull start it, won’t go. I have used starting fluid. Nope. It does appear to be getting spark. Tried pull starting it nope. It sounds like it wants to kick over. Almost like it’s stuck in the engine off mode, but the switch is on. TORS delete has been done.
Any thoughts ?

Pull plug and check for spark.
And run a compression check.
Cheap carbs with incorrect jetting can kill a topend quick.
Does it kick over easy with plug in?

What do you mean y "appears" to have spark ?

Fuel, air spark (at correct time)
Which are you missing ?
When installing reeds torque bolts incrementally in criss cross pattern. Quite often people use a gasket on both sides of reed cage.
Some also use sealer, no silicone

Thank you Slydog!!!!

Dead on.... I Checked Compression, and it is at 90....no good... I ordered a top end kit with Wiseco piston 66.... I also went ahead and ordered a FMF fatty because the exhaust was rusted to hell and wasn’t sealed properly. When I got the bike, it has a cheap Chinese Carb with a short little cheap air filter on it. I replaced with a Mikuni VM26. I replaced the reeds with V Force V4 performance reeds. I also bought all OEM parts from Partzila and rebuilt / replaced the air intake and filter with a foam filter without the lid for airflow.

You were also right about the spark....Grabed an in line tester doesn’t show proper spark at all. So here is my next question. I know that there isn’t spark at the plug, or at least not sufficient spark. I figure it’s on of three things. The Ignition coil, CDI, or stator. But how the hell do I know which one? Is there a more common culprit that should be the go to? I also noticed that the wires on this thing were toast. I ordered an new wiring harness too.

The silver lining here is by the time I’m done, this will damn near be a brand new and badass blaster... so there’s that..... but it’s frustrating

Thank you... it’s Missing compression and spark. Reeds are installed correctly. Now I just need to figure out the spark problem.

You must have 3 likes to pm.
Some have had problems with the flywheel keyway shearing from pull starting

Sure hope you didn't buy e cheap cylinder !!
They need work done BEFORE you can use w.
Can one of you email me at (richransom@gmail?) I want to share photos and potentially speak to one of you two live... But I cannot PM, nor will the site allow me to load my photos. Keeps saying server error.
I have some more questions about the exhaust connection to make sure it seals right. I also want to talk through what could be causing it to not have spark.

Have to get your meter out and start testing
Check that keyway. Sparkplug coil cap remove and test it. It just unscrews off wire. Cut plug wire back 1/2. If long enough before screwing cap back on if it tests ok
Basically process of elimination.run switch in the iff position?

The coil wouldn’t ohm out. It kept jumping all over. I ordered a new coil. In went ahead and ordered the cap too.

Alright. Got my new wire harness in today along with nee on off left handlebar switch. Installed harness, ignition coil, FMF header and silencer, on off switch, and new spark plug. I GOT SPARK! .... all I need to do tomorrow is reject carb, throw gas tank and plastics back together and this Blaster is ready to rock!
