So I currently have an 01 blaster rebuild project and I'm not sure what direction I want to go in when it comes to the engine, I'm new to the 2 stroke world and would love some suggestions. I have the engine out of the blaster and I've gotten as far as knowing it needs a complete top end rebuild and potentially a bottom end as well. So this brings me to a dilemma since I already have the engine pulled I've been thinking of doing modifications to it while I already have it out. I've done a little research on some of the possibilities as far as going with a port job, a big bore kit, or a stroker kit, but I'm not sure which brand I should go with, or which direction will have the best outcome. Im not looking to go the cheap route I want something that is going to hold up and I'm willing to pay the price for it. If it's any help my riding style is mostly at the track with occasional trail riding. I'd love if you guys would give me some suggestions on what to go with thats going to get me to most power but also be reliable, and what supporting mods I might need with these kinds of upgrades, I'd like to try and stay on pump 93 but let me know what ya'll suggest.

Are you rebuilding it or having someone do it for you? You should give ken a call at ken occonor racing. You can get all your engine parts and porting. Head mod for your riding style. Engine assembly if needed.

I planned on rebuilding it myself, but I’ve been going back and forth with it because I’ve never really messed with a 2 stroke, I’d definitely send it out to get ported. I just wanted some opinions on what brands and modifications would suit my build the best. I’ll look him up and get in touch with him as well I’m sure he could give me some more information on this as well.

You could go with the stock ported cylinder and head mod for pump gas. Big improvement. You can get a vitos +3mm. Crank which requires no machining of case's. Minor hand clearancing on some cases. Hotrods makes a +4 crank but requires case trenching. Ken occoner makes a +6mm crank setup. . vitos has big bore kits with or without the +3 crank.but would still need to be ported for big power gains.comes down to how much you want to spend

Slydog, you know your way around these engines! As far as the +3, +4, +6 crank, does one excel over others for the posters riding style or is each step up just add more power across the entire rpm range? Stock ported cylinder / head and +3 crank sounds like it would be fun and reliable!

A +6mm sounds crazy how thin is the case going to be from that, sounds a little concerning. Do you have any experience with the vitos kit I’ve heard some bad things about the piston and that if you’re going to use the kit you should use a wiseco piston instead. I want to go big on this build but a +6 sounds a little sketch how well do they hold up. I’m thinking of doing a +4 with a big bore kit and porting just want to know what the best brands are that I should go with. Will I still be able to run pump gas after this or would it be recommend to use race gas.

I have not tried the +4 or+6. Because of the case trenching. The cases get thinner where they seal. I have a ported vitos big bore and vitos +3 and have had 0 problems. And i ride em hard.. The. Vitos Forged big bore piston is made. By weisco
From what i understand. I think most failures are from improper assembly and tourqeing. The leading cause is probably airleaks/improper jetting imo

Thanks for the suggestions, do you run race gas or pump gas on your blasters? I sent out and email to ken today about getting the build started so I’ll see what he thinks about the +4 or +6.

Fuel requirements are strictly tied to compression.
I would do a 3mil just because of cost. Y’all to Ken about setting it up without using the spacer plate. The difference will be made up when he cuts the head.
What pipe do you plan on using? That also should be considered with porting

I currently have a full fmf exhaust that I’m running on it.

Make sure to tell him you want to run on pump gas. And like what was mentioned about the +3. They can set it up so you don't have to rin the spacer plate

Ya I talked to him today going with the +3 without the spacer and porting. Sending it out this week he’s pretty backed up though said he’s got 12 engines already there as of today so who knows when I’ll get it back, but that gives me some time to try and find some other parts for the build. Trying to order a upgraded carb I wanted to go with the lectron carb but they’re all out because of this virus, you have any suggestions on other brands I should go with.

Pwk kehin carbs are a popular choice on blasters
