I just purchased a 2001 Yamaha Blaster it’s all stock and just had a new top end installed.

- I’m riding it and it seems like it doesn’t want to go like it doesn’t have any pep just a tad bit. Does it still need to be broken in?

- what is the best FMF exhaust to put on it and DO I HAVE TO JET IT or will the stock Carb be enough live in south Florida and I mainly trail ride and put around. So what would be the best thing for me to do to get some power or a little more pep out of the bike?

- what are the best/simple Mods I can do to my blaster to make it a quick little toy?

if anyone can help me out I’m quit new to the blaster family!

Thanks!

Are you using the factory oil injection. Or mixing your own oil and fuel at 32:1. Did you do the rebuild? Air filter nice and clean?

First off WELCOME !!

An engine is basically an air pump. To make more power you need to make more air flow through it. More air means you need more fuel (BIGGER JETS)

To avoid lots of jet changes plan your modifications. I’ll list some mods and amount of jet size increase.
A bone stock blaster has a 220/230 main jet.
Remove air cleaner +1
Remove air box lid +1, so that’s +2 total
Better air filter +1 (all 3, +3)

Understanding so far ?

A expansion chamber is your best bang for the buck. FMF is a good choice. Anything but DG is.
Wouldn’t suggest a FMF SST though (for your riding)

The pipe manufacturer will have jetting recommendation for sea level and 70*f and every thing else stock, which IIRC, is 270.

So if you did a pipe, filter and no lid you’d need a 300 main jet.

If you have ANY questions about jetting PLEASE, PLEASE ASK !!

Failure to jet properly will DESTROY your engine !!!!:(

I need to clean my air filter I don’t have a K&N air filter is a blue one but I don’t know how to clean it is there anything I can get from Walmart to clean it? I know its fairly simple. Also can I take my air box off to give the filter more air with a stock bike it’s 99% stock.

Advice would be gladly be appreciate.

Thanks

Yeah I def don’t want to blow my engine up that’s for sure. I kinda understand what you mean but I honestly don’t want to like make it super super fast I just want to be able to get up and go quickly with my buddies.

For example this is all I have planned to do.... if you can tell me the best way to go about my plane that would be great as I am new to Blasters and 4 wheelers.

I plan to:

- Add a FMF fatty and Power core 2 pipe
- Put on V Force 4 Reeds
- and whatever Jets I need to do this and my bike run smooth and quick

that’s all I really want just to add a pipe and reeds and new Jets and whatever it does I’ll be fine I don’t want to go crazy with money. I think these modifications I mentioned shouldn’t cost that much as I am trying to budget and purchase the smart way.

Do you think what I said is possible or no?

Probably buy a new preoiled Air filter. I say that because you don't know the age of the other filter.they deteriorate. Over time. Any dirt gets by the filter goes right in the engine.if old filter is good clean with soap and water
Let dry thoroughly.then spray evenly with air filter oil.
The pipe and reeds are good mods.for the fmf you will need to buy some main jets
Usually 270-300 for the pipe

Yeahs that’s all I wanted to do was add some reeds and a pipe and maybe some cosmetic things and suspension MAYBE but pipe and reeds for sure and I’m going to get smaller back tires “18-10x8” and then I should be read to go.

I figured out today that the Tors system is making it cut off and my throttle is getting stuck plus I went mudding today and it was a little wet out there I’m in south Florida and the TORS System on my bike now is crap. So I’m going to bipass it.

The tors is doing its job if the throttle is getting stuck.lol. First thing you need to do is figure out why throttle is hanging up. That is a dangerous situation. Check all parts of throttle. Cable melting on exhaust? Slide sticking? Thumb control sticking? Last thing you want is to be wide open and let off to hit a turn and your stuck wide open:eek:

I run a FMF Fatty pipe on mine with stock airbox and jetting didn't change, Fatty is for a full RPM range boost. I would check the reeds to be sure they are seating properly. they have a huge effect on the intake charge. Once that is solved, try a 3/8" intake spacer and a +4 degree flywheel key. I also shaved my head and squish about .025" and bought a Yamaha YEIS chamber off eBay. With stock bore, piston, reeds and airbox making around 30hp. I installed a two tooth smaller rear sprocket to load the engine a little more and GPS says 72mph on the trails and pulls really hard in every gear.

Yeah the 38 tooth rear is way better than the stock 40 tooth for sure
