Will porting my cylinder lead to premature top end wear

I am contemplating getting my cylinder ported. I am looking to wake up the engine a little bit with a low to mid range port. I have already contacted a tuner and he said I will still be able to run pump gas because i will not be changing the compression ratio. Anyone who has had a mild port job done please let me know how you’ve fared with it. Im hoping to have the top end last at least 25-30 hrs.

also how much did you have to mess around with the jetting? Did you have to change the pilot, clip main jet etc? Let me know, it is jetted spot on right now and I have never fouled a plug in the 9 years Ive owned it

maintenance is key to a long lasting engine ..... clean that air filter often, a carb clean, the engine free of airleaks, and use a good oil for air cooled engines
depending on who did the machine work to proper specs for your choice of pistons. and chamfer all ports correctly.
no reason you can't get seasons out of these engines, not just 25-35 hours, ported or not.

a properly modded head for 93 pump gas will do wonders to compliment the porting.

without changing anything else ... pipe, airfilter, intake, air box/lid, just the internal machine work should not require jetting changes, but plug chop to confirm that.

It's just going to be alot more fun to ride after porting an head mod. Maintenance wise i really don't think there will be a difference

thanks for the quick response. I am good with air filters. Always have 2. One clean one in the quad and another being cleaned in the soak tank to swap out...crank seals and intake/exhaust gaskets are in good shape. I always clear out my jets and make sure nothing in the bowl is gunked up after it sits for a few weeks. I run yamalube 2r (same thing i run in my yz although thats water cooled) The guy im sending it to is Herrsjuggracing. He specialized in banshee and blaster porting, so I am confident in his work.

I have a full FMF exhaust system, boyesen reeds, got rid of tors and minor airbox alterations done, but it is currently jetted now for everything little change that has been done from the stock setup.

Cool just wanted to make sure that I wouldnt be compromising the integrity of the engine by getting it ported. Looking forward to it. My blaster has always been super reliable since I've owned it and dont want this to change that.

Are you boring it?new piston?. Leakdown test after assembly to make sure you are sealed up good. Just make sure to properly tourqe every thing, heat cycles and retouqe.tourqe intake.that is one of the most common air leak areas. Because of over tightening

not boring, just putting in a new standard sized piston

You should have Whoever is porting it measure cylinder.you don't ussualy put a new piston in a old bore.unless it's a plated bore which this is not.like awk told you maintenance is key. For someone that is asking about reliability don't drop the ball here! Piston slap can lead to major engine damage. Pay now or pay later.imo

i asked him if I should provide the piston or if he’d take care of it and he told me i could send one in but i guess ill just have them provide it then

X-2 on new piston, new bore !!
You’re only talking about $50-60 more. Well worth the peace of mind. Especially if you use a cast piston. They wear slightly quicker , they don’t like bouncing around a sloppy hole, which causes breakage, which usually also breaks the case.

An engine is an air pump. With porting it will pump more air. More air needs more fuel. I did a Vito’s pro stock piston with stock pipe and had to go up three sizes on the main. No matter what you should (must) do a plug ‘read’ or chop. You might have to do other tuning also. Herr Jugs should be able to guide you, it’s his porting and has been doing it for a long time.

Better off letting them get the piston that way it will be the right size for what they are going to bore it to
