In case you're a nerd like myself...

Yeah i read that about the diesels.they are getting good horsepower for the liter size. I've worked on alot of the v6-v8-v12-v16. 2stroke diesels.they all have super chargers.higher horsepower models have a turbo that feeds the super chargers. Those new ones look good for power to weight and size

A friend of mine in Denver rode his nephews 300. Immediately took his 520 Ktm sold it and got a 300. Loves it. He can go from 5,200’ in town to 10,000’+ without doing anything.

As to the old Detroit Diesels, they’re just like a 2s bike, gotta scream to make power.
They’re unique. Ring of intake ports at bottom of cylinder, and two exhaust valves in head.

4 exhaust valves per cylinder.2 valve heads are really old.they definitely have a distinct sound.

You guys must work on lorries. I couldn't tell you anything about large diesel engines or who makes them. I've heard of Detroit Diesel, but I know nothing about them.

Here’s what you do with the V-12
definitely hear that coming
As to the switch to 4 valve not sure maybe 70s 80s. Very rarely see one.if you do its old. Worked on a 1944 navy landing craft before had 4. 6-71 in it. 2v . 2 port 2 starboard motors.

Diesel engines are strange beasts. I've only worked on passenger diesels, you know, the normal Euro Turdboxes (VW, Mercedes, etc.) and a handful of 3/4 ton trucks.
The thought of a two-stroke diesel is very odd to me. Perhaps you guys can explain the advantage of a two-stroke diesel vs. the standard four-stroke diesel. Is it mainly for marine application?

They ran. 2t diesels in alot of things trucks busses, boats, construction equipment. Think some old tanks.they fazed them out in the mid 90s emissions. The cylinder fires everytime the pistons come up.4t every other time.that why they sound like they ate screaming
