Do you have to remove the engine from the body to do a top end job or can you do it while the motor is still mounted, and why?

You can just leave it in if you're only doing top end, no reason to take it all out

I do my topend in the frame . it's easier to loosen and retouqe cylinder and head nuts with the motor secured in the frame.

Just power wash it good, especially under the tank

I just got it running after 3 or 4 years of it setting in a guys yard just rotting away. He didnt have one piece of helpful info on the bike because he took it in on trade, never could figure out how to tune it to get it to fire so he parked it in his back yard, and there it sat for years, un covered, anyway I traded him a knock off Chinese turbo for a 5.9 Cummins . I broke it down went through alot and really cleaned everything ;and it took me probably 2-3 weeks of hr here and hr there to get it to bust off. I treated it like a fresh rebuild and did 3 heat cycles (straight from Ken o'Conner racing) and babied it for about 2-3 days. Well when I finally let it rip, let me tell you, 1,2,and 3 gear the front tires were not hitting the ground long enough to say they hit. She was nasty fast. Well i was cruising and when i hit 5th i felt a pop, thought it was a tire honestly, didnt see any thing so I turned around and headed home and she died about 20 yards from driveway. When I kicked, it was like pushing air. Compression test shows 5-10 lbs. I put pictures of my jets on Here a while back to show that there wasnt a single number to show the size.. guess I should of went ahead and changed them anyway. So here we are. My first rebuild and I'm a bit nervous.

That sucks. You should do a leakdown test before you disassemble.see if you have any air leaks.then after assembly to ensure your air tight..lean conditions kill. An engine quickly.post some pics of damage.

I've tried a few times to upload a picture of my bike but it keeps saying it's to big
Anyway. I really wish I could find another engine for the cheap cheap to drop off In It while I played with this one

That sucks:(

First thing to do is wash it good. Do a leak down test as mentioned. My guess is either bad crank seals, air leak, or carb jetting was way off. IF you need a new piston, get bored so it goes in a new hole.
Replace crank seals, they’re at least 13 yrs old.
IF You have to split the cases get a Blaster flywheel puller, no jaw pullers. Be sure to remove washer and back center bolt all the way out.
File the fingers on clutch basket

If it has to be gone into that deep, someone else will be doing g it. Only because I know me, I'll take it all apart( which I'm good at) and wait too long to get parts or what ever the reason and I'll loose 1/2 the stuff I need to make it run again. I'more of an accessory man. I can do anything o a motorized vehicle except for going into the engine and trans.

Think he is running a ch$!#$!nese carb

Your running a Chinese carb right? I think jetting was recommended before. Get a pic resize app to be able to post pictures

One thing I dont understand, everyone keeps saying Chinese junk, or what ever, I've discovered that mukini is a Chinese made carb, so do I stay away from that brand too? And yamaha is Japanese, I'm all kinds of confused . What to get now

8699.jpeg 8701.jpeg 13305.jpeg 13304.jpeg the purple frame is what my bike looked like when I first got it and the 2nd 2 are what it looks like now, and the seat is a one off custom done by circle A customs. " me" hahaha. So dont hate too much on the off center of the blaster on the back of the seat.

Proof that Mikuni is Chicom?
They are a Japanese company, far different than china

They might be japs, but all the parts are made In China aparently. That's according to a couple different articles I came across. But hey, you can always believe everything you see on the ole interweb huh.. lmao
