I only know what I know from watching videos, so I'm hoping I'm spending money in the right direction.

Bought a pre headlight change blaster, my main question is in regards to getting. Blaster had an fmf fatty gold series pipe and fmf silencer. Also has no air filter lid or even a filter at all. Runs great revs all the way out until 4th or 5th gear then at high revs it kind of surges/cuts in and out. Kind of jerks you forward and back as it grabs and loses power.

I can only assume I'm lean as hell, like blow up lean. It's jetted with a 270 main, I ordered what I would call a dome style sir filter with a screw in the middle I just can't imagine no air filter being worth any performance gains. Maybe 270 will be right after the filter restriction? I also ordered a jet kit with like 260-300 I see bad things about jet kits on the forum so I guess I need to find a dealer around here to get some genuine ones. I'm at about 700 ft elevation. It's around 70 degrees.

Also I can see some dirt/grit getting into the plastic tube leading to the carb, recommended cleaning method before I put on the air filter? I guess carb cleaner and paper towels.

I've tried adjusting the clutch but even with no slack and a full handle of pull on the cable it grabs a little bit in gear bogs the bike down a bit. Doesn't really release until the end of the travel so I'm guessing this is just how they are?

I broke the headlight housing trying to get into it to replace the bulb stuff seized up, put an LED pod in it's place and it's flickering I'm guessing from ac current any recommended adapter/rectifier thing.

The rear brakes had no pad at all just calipers, ordered some pads hopefully that's straight forward the calipers appear to work.

Reed valves didn't seem awful but didn't seal as much as I would think, had a chip but it wasn't deep enough that it would appear to effect airflow. Ordered new ones anyway seems like a wear item possibly related to my surge issue, I'm guessing at this point.

I wouldn't trust vids that much ! Get a Clymer's Repair Manual or find the PDF on here.

First, stop riding until you get a filter. Hopefully you get the stock cage and stock style foam filter. UNI or Twin Air are good.
Pre 03 (your's) disable the TORS. 3 wire plug under hood.
Is the engine actually surging or is it driveline related (possibly clutch or sprockets?)

Reads about jet kits but buys one anyway (face palm) Hopefully itsi at least genuine Mikuni Jets.

A rag with carb, brake clean, or even paint thinner pushed with a stick.

Not that way when properly adjusted. Clutch arm points to marker on case. Might need clutch work, new cable, groves on basket filed.

Search "floating the ground" , LED lights. Blaster is AC, must be converted to DC.

Hey Larry,

Thanks for the help,

This is the air filter I ordered
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072JGRP3G/?tag=jyj356j5-20

Is Tors necessary to disable? From my understanding so far if it's the issue I wouldn't be able to rev up high in any gear, 1-3rd I can absolutely scream, pop wheelies, whatever. Is it as simple as removing the 3 wire plug?

Which somewhat leads me to believe it's not drive-line, it grabs hard in lower gears even at WOT it's just like 5th and 6th if you hold it wide open a while it starts bogging in and out and you can hear the engine run like a raped ape and then kind of bogs. like someone's flicking a run like sh*t switch about every second or two.

Sorry on the jet kit, I read about them more after placing the order.

Thanks for the direction!

BTW,
Welcome !!!
:D

Thanks for all the help!

I replied above but I'm guessing because I put an amazon link to the filter I ordered it's awaiting mod approval to post.

Here's the jist of it, I ordered an air filter that's shaped like a dome and has a screw in the middle, I'm not sure that my airbox is stock but it looks like this is the style it takes. Kind of like a pod but more oval and it'll seat against the rubber seal inside my airbox.

Well I disabled tors and installed an air filter, no change in running behavior that I can tell. Still runs pretty good until holding it wide open through the upper gears. I guess at this point I'm waiting on Reed valves jets and praying.
