Well I finally was able to get out and test the Blaster this weekend and needless to say I wasn't happy. Wouldn't shift into 1st it would make the clicking noise, i would release the clutch and nothing, if i held the shifter down it would go into gear and it would move but wouldn't easily shift into 2nd or 3rd. Been doing a lot of reading and watching a lot of videos. I am hoping its nothing major and having to split the case. Possibly worn shift star? Going to double check clutch adjustment as i did replace friction plates and put a new clutch cable on. I do notice that the clutch actuator arm is slightly touching the carb float body which it probably shouldn't. Has anyone had this shifting issue? a little advice on things to look for would be greatly appreciated.

with the cable disconnected at either end, adjust the rod/nut on the pressure plate until the actuator pointer aligns with the notch on the case under the carb, hold the rod with small screwdriver while you tighten the nut so it stays adjusted, I like a little blue loctite on the threads/nut .....

but really, your problem sounds like the shift pawl on the end of the shift shaft, the little springs may be weak, broke or out of place, usually a new/used, known good, shift shaft solves it.
we've also seen aftermarket magnetic drain plugs extend in too far and interfere with the shift drum.

Is there suppose to be play in the clutch basket and the gear at the back.. also is the clutch boss suppose to make that grinding noise?
Hey man I have the exact same thing going on, I know this is old but did you figure out what it was
