So what do you guys think about a yz 250 swap on a blaster do you think it will be a big difference in the range of power I have a yz 250 and has way more power than my blaster but could that just be because it is in the bike what do you think

have your ported or gotten a head mod? what pipe are you running?

blasters can push a lot of power if you do it right

obviously a 2 stroke bike will have more power either way with power valves and being a better design in general
but dont give up on le blaster just because it cant compete with a bike

The hard part of a swap is the expansion chamber. If not done correctly you will have a big bore turd that's slower than a mild built blaster.

Sorry to tell you this but you suffer from an addiction to powwa. Tho you may have remissions such as marrige, divorce, birth of child. But I can tell you will end up on the hard stuff, Banshees, Gixxers, 'Busas.

Big bore/stroker YZ, a nice big KTM, or a YZ490!!

To do a swap right, If you go down that road eventually, modifying the frame to fit the proper pipe is a must. If you don't want to cut your frame up and decide to cut the pipe up instead, the dynamics of the pipe will be off and the motor won't produce the power you want. A custom built pipe will need to be made. I opted for cutting the frame and rebuilding it around the motor and pipe. I am running a kx 250 but the concept is the same.

Dave,
New member here. I am starting a similar project this winter. What radiator did you use for the build? Full disclosure: I have been a tool maker for 20+ years with fab background and solid modeling capability at home. I have a Bridgeport mill and small lathe with a surface grinder in my basement. My 14 year old son and I are going to start on this 2019. My second question is the front end set up. I am buying a 2002 for $500. Already have a total rebuilt WR 250 motor ready to drop in. RAD valve with new bearable cylinder, FMF pipe and silencer. The front end is the only thing that makes me cringe. Never have been good with the suspension side. Thanks in advanced if you get to respond.

Sorry i haven’t been on here in a while. I used a yfz450 radiator for my swap

The suspension was after market American star i believe. I used shocks from a Suzuki 450 quad. I had to make a new upper mount and locate it to the top of the frame. That allowed the long shock to move in its full stroke. Took a little time to get it right but once it was done, the front moved really smooth. I also had Honda 250r knuckles and hub on it. The bike originally was drum and i converted it. Plus being Honda bolt pattern, more wheel options available. Same with the rear. I swapped to Honda hubs and sprocket hub. More wheel options and sprocket sizes to choose from. I ran all motor hard mounting points, including the head stay. I cut the coil mount off the stock location and welded it behind the rear most front plastic mount below the gas tank on the right side. It fit perfectly there at a slight angle down.

That is absolutely not true, like, at all. At least if you decide to run an FMF. I've got a gnarly on mine, and with some creative maneuvering you're able to rotate the pipe into the stock chassis.

Your pipe doesn't hit the frame on the left side from vibration? Looks like a whole mm of clearance. Bet a fatty would be a stretch for direct swap though
