Hi guys iam new to this forum but i need some help. I have a buddys blaster and he wants me to get it running which i did. i have rode this quad before and it always ticked but it seems really really bad to me and getting worse. I have owned and ridin many 2strokes in my day and i have never heard any of them sound like this. so i have some questions for you guys. i will post a video so you guys can hear what iam talking about.

#1 what could be making this noise?

#2 I dont trust the oil injection system on this bike the light is always on can i just drian the tank and run pre mix 32.1 without getting a block off

I cant think of anymore off the top of my head but i know i have more. I know that yamaha blasters have a slight tick to them but i believe that there is some thing that is about to go wrong in a big way. PLEASE HELP THANKS!

piston slap, crank bearings, big or little end of the rod, FO against the head hitting the piston, blown balancer shaft gear, broken clutch (basket or steel and fibers), or any of the case bearings. Take your pic, without a tear down it's hard to tell where the noise might be coming from.

You need to remove the gear from the oil pump before you stop feeding it oil. Without oil pumping through it the pump will lock up and then the gear will tear all to pieces and put a bunch of little plastic parts in your transmission.

^^not always. i have been riding for over a year with the plastic gear and nothing has happened. i even rode my 88 for about 3 years with the plastic gear and nothing ever happened

It's a roll pin and a clutch cover gasket (if you're good and don't tear it you don't even need that). Why would you risk the pump locking up and shredding the gear into your transmission?

can u get a vid so we can hear it??

^^^^ Agreed even re-build right brand new they can be noisy.
If that the case you can buy the lil rubber isolaters and wedge them between the coolin fins to damper some of the sound.

One of the annoying things with Blasters is they notoriously make an odd "sput sput" sound compared to a lot of 2 strokes. Now there are a LOT of things that can cause that an ABNORMAL sound. A loose kicker, a loose exhaust, pre-deflagration, too much rod play....or simply just something loose and vibrating.

What mods does he have done to the Blaster? Where is the sound originating from?...the engine?....where around the engine? A video would be helpful. I can give you an example of pre-deflagration when my Blaster was running too low of octane gas and "pinging"....I'm guessing it's not your problem, but one example nontheless. Able to hear it best at 0:42-0:55 and 2:26-2:35.

Does he have any mods? How does it actually run when you ride it? My initial guess is too much rod play or the piston skirt is hitting the side of the cylinder.

yeah thats sounding pretty bad.
Chances are it will need a new piston kit and fresh bore, including wrist pin and bearing... be sure to check the new pin and bearing for play, the rod maybe worn.

i only use premium, but it sounds just like yours , why does yours do that?

premium should be perfectly fine unless you are running a milled head and the compression is too high causing pre-deflagration.....like mine used to do when I was running 93 AND high compression. It shouldn't ping on fresh 93 on a stock head.

That sounds like the small end rod bearing to me, or serious piston slap, but piston slap is usually not that bad at idle....

thats not pinging from too much compression

I know. I:I I was just answering the other guys question although I doubt it's a gas problem anyways.

I have the same thought at you though. More than likely a rod issue and possibly the skirt hitting.

I just picked up a Kawasaki dirt bike and it sounds like that and it was the crank rod bearing. It could be the wrist pin too. I don't think its the piston because it seems to be running ok.My bet it is one of those.Just take it apart gaskets are cheap....but rod bearings are not ....lol

Yeppers that's NOT normal.
Pull the head off, pull the piston up to TDC and give a whack with the palm of your hand on the top off it in a downward motion.
I'm pretty sure your gonna hear a tink sound- which is not good.
If you do hear the tink sound take the piston off and try again this time whacking the rod with the palm of your hand.
This will test the big end crank bearings.
Be it small-end piston pin bearings or the big end crank bearings there should not be any play in there.
Hopefully it's the small end bearings.
