Shorten yfz shocks 1 inch

I just got a pair of 2004 yfz shocks they fit perfectly just lift the front of my blaster up about 2 inches I was wondering if it's a good idea to get them rebuilt, shortened one inch and powder coated
Has anyone ever shortened them this guy says he can do it for 95 each

he said he just uses a spacer in the shock, has anyone ever done this? my only other option would to be to get a lowering kit, and run them how they are,

More then likely he needs to see it to be sure, thats apparently how to properly lower it I'm just wondering how it would effect the performance , lots of people do it for ice racing but I'm more MX style
