Question about rear shock

Hi im new here I just bought a 99 blaster from a friend and he said the rear shock needs to be rebuilt. He said is a 250 rear that he put on. so When I was calling around they said it was gonna be about $150 roughly to rebuild but I have been reading alot of posts and see that alot of you have a 400ex rear shock which I found on ebay for 25$-60$. So my question is should I just buy a 400ex rear shock or rebuild the 250 shock. Thanks for any help ive never owned a quad before so im trying to learn.

purchase a 400ex shock in good shape.

go to 400 EX bushings

buy the bushings and install the shock.

i plan on doing this also very soon.

Post up a picture of the shock that is on the quad. You might be better off getting it rebuilt if it is an aftermarket shock or a stock one in really good shape. I plan on doing a 400ex swap soon myself but you are always taking a gamble when you buy a used part.

decided to just rebuild the 250r shock at least then I know its good to go. Thanks for the help.
