In the past 6 months I have had several problems with my son's Blaster.

1. Stock at the time, Piston broke.
2. B1 Toomey kit added, new top end and than my bottom end went bad (main crank needle bearing went out. 310 main jet was added no air box lid.
3. New bottom and top end. Same 310 main jet and no air box lid
4. Top end burned up (only 1/2 tank of gas).

So, I have rebuild the top end again. Upped the main jet to 330 and completely closed off the air box.

Here is a picture of my 1st plug chop (yes, rookie move and cut too deep) and need help understanding what I'm seeing. I think it's running rich now, but want to make sure I'm doing things right.

that plug color actually doesn't look too bad, but that 330 sounds a little large for that toomey with airbox lid on, but not impossible depending on your elevation

has it been leaktested ?
a definate must for all 2 stroke owners and considering your history

Color on plug doesnt look too bad, Like Awk said be sure to a leak down test, because a 330 sounds a little fat with your mods.

and could possibly be masking an airleak, more than likely the cause of your last deep fried turkey experience

I have not leaked tested it. It's on the list of things to do this week. When the 1st piston went, it did drop the skirt and I opted not to split the case and thoroughly cleaned the lower by removing both sides. The Blaster ran for 2 trips out to the dunes before the the main crank needle bearing went out after this rebuild. The engine was split this time and no obvious damage to the case and the bottom and top end were rebuilt. This time I had piston meltdown and no damage to the lower end.

It's back up and running and I "really" don't want to go through this again. :)

Thanks for all your help and I'll let you know what the leak test comes up with.

/\ /\ /\ /\ For those who opt out of splitting the cases and fully cleaning everything, this is the result.

Not having a lend of you Dave, but this experience may help others learn at your expense.

Before you do anything else do a leak down test.
