Nothing holding expansion chamber but a spring?!

So I have a 2000 blaster that i've been doing some work on. There's nothing holding the expansion chamber on but one spring. This doesn't make sense to me. It leaks like crazy of course because it not bolted down or anything. And then there's just this metal connector between the expansion chamber and the silencer and it's not sealed so it leaks there too. Is this really the way it's supposed to be? And will it hurt my motor if I left it this way?

Yes just a spring. and a bolt at the top of the expansion camber mounted on the rubber mount.

There should be a flange that the pipe slips into or around. Get a stronger spring?

Ok I'll just make this spring shorter and put some sealant around it. I just wasn't sure that was the way it was supposed to be but it is. Thanks!!
