Neither brakes working well

so the front brakes on the 98 were working and randomly the lever goes all the way back and then they engage is it pads or this cable broken.. as for the backs I just put new pads in and a new cable and they work but only if the lever is pushed really hard down u like have to stand on it for it to stop any ideas on that?

You filled it with brake fluid? Both resivors? Did you bleed the systems? Could be an air bubble in the lines.

It is a 98 it is cable brakes not hydraulic

is it a OEM cable or aftermarket one? Do you still have the old cable? Make sure the new cable is the same length on the cable and the cover. I had a problem with a aftermarket CR125 clutch cable that was a little to long and wouldn't work the clutch properly.

Have you tried adjusting the cable?
Disc not worn out? Still in thickness spec.

It is an aftermarket cable
But I did match them up and they were the same, when I took the caliper apart eveeything inside was good I have not done an adjustment yet but it seems like the pedal is going down enough if it was adjusted I feel the pedal would be either really hard or really soft because right now it feels perfect

Any ideas on the front cable if it looks broken? And would I adjust the brake cable in or out?
